The price depends on if the person know what he or she has.
It also depends on what sentimental value it may or may not have to the person. It also depends on if you are the only one that knows about it or if there is a bidding war on it. Finally it depends onhow bad the people need the money.

I realize all of that. What I am looking for is actual value or what some trucks in that category have brought. I am not trying to steal the truck from her. She knows it will bring over $10k.

Keep in mind, while that is a super great find[if you know for a fact the mileage is real] it will still need a lot of work. The worst thing for most mechanical systems is to sit up, which if that is the mileage, it's done that a lot. When you get such a find and start using it, all sorts of problems will crop up. Seals dryrot, so many times the motor, trans, and brakes will leak like crazy. Motors that have set up tend to use a lot of oil, and valves springs tend to get weak from always being compressed. I worked on a 69 LTD that was super low miles and dryrot and things that are just stuck will drive you crazy. The good side is the amount of money needed to take care of any of these problems is minimal, just a lot of work.[its sucks how much work is required to install a $2 seal] Hope it works out and you get it.

Hey, thanks! But I have been around this truck for about twenty years (wow I am getting old). The owner drove it for short droves or started it at least once a month. There are no oil leaks and no spots on the floor. I do realize that sometimes a truck with 123k miles is in better mechanical shape than one with only 23k that is 30 years old. This truck is original and beautiful and nearly perfect. I think $12500 is about what it would take to buy it.........

12500 doesn't sound like too bad of a price, especially if it has been started and driven a little every once in a while. Probably helps with the dry rot a little.

I can vouch for what Tom Hand is saying. My low mileage truck has had a fair number of problems due to it's lack of use and age. Most of them have fairly minor but I recently decided I had enough with oil leaks, Massive smoke on start-up ect. I'm undergoing a re-ferb (rebuild if necessary) of my drive train now. Yes that may only be a $2.00 seal but it may take you half a day to get to it.
On the plus side there's nothing like driving an older original truck. On a good day once the smoke settles down and you drive away from the oil slick you can almost imagine it's a new truck. The body is tight and everything else works as it should. The truck you are looking at sounds as if it's had pretty good maintenance. If it's as nice as you say I'g guess 12K or more would be a pretty fair price. There's no way you could build one as nice as that for that kind of money. Good Luck! I hope you get it and post some pictures.

IMHO
$12,000 WILL indeed build you a pretty nice truck. It wont leak oil. It wont need motor work, It wont need tires, brakes, shocks or interior work etc. $12,000 and a few months labor ( If you can call fun stuff like working on your own truck LABOR ) and you'll have a truck that is a much better driving and looking truck than a 30 year old 23,000 original maile truck AND...you wont kick yourself for putting miles on it.

Sounds like a fair deal. Just remember that driveline repairs are much easier and much cheaper than rust repair and paint! Hope you get the truck.

i got mine for a deal, i paid 6K for a 32k orginal mile long horn in near perfect shape. although because it had sat for 12 years there are some oil leaks, few parts failed, had to clean both gas tanks and replace most all the rubber hoses. sure there is more i havent found yet, its hard on trucks to set.
for 12k id get a restored one. that way everything is new. most cant build a perfect one for 12k but you can always fine one for that. people who put 18k into a truck and now need to sell. thats what i would look for. orginal trucks are nice but i wouldnt pay over 8 for one. there are to many problems from setting.

I definitely appreciate the feedback from everyone! I manage a restoration and streetrod shop, so I know the ins and outs of a restored truck. But I also really appreciate the nearly perfect original low mile trucks. I can't count how many of these trucks I have repaired and/or restored. I just can't decide what I want to spend on it, and if I don't buy it I want to tell her a fair price to ask for it. She doesn't have to sell it, but it will go down hill fast without him to take care of it.
