Another Stupid PO
While removing several pounds of filler on pass side I discovered a patch over the wheel arch. The patch did not have the small crease around the edge of the opening. They used that patch and filled the original crease with filler to make it look the same. My question is where or what would that patch be from? Going to try to borrow a pic from AJs72K5 from last Stupid PO. The crease is the small indent around wheel opening.

Re: Another Stupid PO
Yes, There is a small crease all along the edge of the opening just before turning into the inner wheel house on the rear and before the inner fender on front. The patch didn't have that small profile like the original. Wondering where it came from.

Re: Another Stupid PO
Hope this will clear up what I am trying to explain, the profile on the original is circled in red. Hard to tell with pics but looking close you might be able to tell where patch starts without profile. The original (darker shade) is about where the splash guard is, above and below that is the patch without profile.

Re: Another Stupid PO
Yep, nothing reproduced like that.
Put a WTB thread up in the classified section looking for a patch area from an "original" fender and you'll find yourself one. Gotta be a subscribed member though... |

Actually no, some patch panels do come with the detailed lip, only the really cheap stuff doesn't have it. |

Re: Another Stupid PO
That's really weird. Because my PO told me both front fenders had been replaced when he was making it over due to rust. I assumed aftermarket (LMC) but could be wrong.

Re: Another Stupid PO
Early this spring I bought a swb bed side (drivers) that I cut to replace original and it had that indent on it. I got it from Manes. Does a LWB wheel arch measure the same? I have a LWB bedside that I could cut for patch if needed, but wanted to check for new first. Would hate to have to fill indent on new side If I could repair original since forth fronts and driver look same.

Re: Another Stupid PO
They make a patch for the rear wheel arch with the indent in it. And yes the LWB arch would be the same.
MOST Tri-plus panels have the detail but you may get a bad one, depends who you buy from it seems. Another brand I came across with it was Tabco. Anyone that wants picture proof of the detail on the rear arch I will PM the pics. Oh yah and I have GMC repro front fenders that have the indents also. Re: Another Stupid PO
So do you think it would be better to cut a patch out of the LWB or look for a repop patch?

Re: Another Stupid PO
isn't the rear arch of a SWB and LWB different? I thought that the SWB "swept" out more in the rear of the arch. Not sure what your blazers do but be sure to check...

Re: Another Stupid PO
Orignal metal is always better IF you can find it, but when I was matching up the creases from the repop panel to the orginal it was pretty darn close. The rear arches on LWB, SWB and Blazers are all the same.

Re: Another Stupid PO
I can see the difference in the photos, the patch I need will run from near the moulding on the front around to the rear to the bottom, Think that would work?

Re: Another Stupid PO
The pic you have shown is what I have to replace, but would like to continue on to the rear bottom as a small patch wa placed there also. The idea was to replace two patches with one. It does look like that the forward bottom looks different however I don't need to go that far down,

Re: Another Stupid PO
Yes from the front belt line molding up around to the rear arch bottom they are all the same. The differance is in the lower front corner of a LWB to a SWB/Blazer. So it should work fine depending on your skills.

Re: Another Stupid PO
Tabco's panels (the ones THEY make) have that detail perfectly. I ordered the patch panel for the area forward of the wheel well on the rear qtr panel and it came with the detail (very crisp) and a nice heavy galvaniel gage steel! I suggest calling before ordering and specifying that you want their parts only, because they do sell some inferior parts too. I'll try to get some pics....

Re: Another Stupid PO
Located a patch panel with indent from a board vendor last week. On vacation this week and due to Gustav remnants I was confined to the spousal avoidance center and try my luck at installing. I'm not much of a welder so those who are my hat is off to ya. The small patch with green was off of a donor lwb bed, the black patch was the repop. The last is next to replace just had to show how much filler was used, nearly a half inch thick. Feel free to give advise it is appreciated. On a lighter note I took picture of a lake that I had dug in July, yesterday this lake had only a foot of water in it and thanks to Gustav twelve hrs later and 6.5" of rain its more than full.

Looks good. How are things in Rolla since B&S left? I hated that, a lot of good guys worked there...
