CPP trailing arm crossmember??
I am trying to put in a rear trailing arm crossmember in my 68 C10. It is a dropped CPP one. I have found out that the previous owner cut a long box frame into a short box and then moved and welded in the stock crossmember. Without thinking I did not mark the position of the stock one before I cut it out. Is there anything that I could reference from the front of the frame and measure up to put the crossmember in the right place.
Anybody got pictures and measurements. Thanx. |

Re: CPP trailing arm crossmember??
I was thinking about that, but at this point I am unsure of what the ride height is going to be. I have the front all apart too. I was curious as to what people are putting in for front and rear air bags and what height the bags should be at actual ride height.
Thanx Trevor |

Re: CPP trailing arm crossmember??
I measured my frame from the straight endge of the crossmember above the rear springs to the back edge of the cross member the trailing arms attach to and get 40 inches, don't have any pictures at the moment, hope this is of help. I have a 72 frame.

Re: CPP trailing arm crossmember??
No , i have the original cross member and I'm waiting on the arrival of my new trailing arms from early classic. Just finnished painting the frame and I'm now starting to assemble it. I had bought the grand slam package from CPP and am hoping that there will be no problems with the parts as most are made in China and not North American made as I thought, but it's going to be some time before I find out, I have a long ways to go.

Re: CPP trailing arm crossmember??
mind if i ask a question?
any way you could measure that cross member for me? width and height at the ends where it bolts to the frame? i am considering trying to convert my 57 to the trailing arm suspension using CPP parts but am actually having trouble getting somebody to get some measurements - and i know it sounds weird but i have yet to find one at a local show i could get under to measure. thanks |

Re: CPP trailing arm crossmember??
The original cross member is 33- 1/4 wide by 5-13/16 high by 4-3/4, the CPP or Early Classic Enterprise cross member would be of the same dimension other than the thickness of material and the location of the center hole for the drive shaft and provision for exhaust pipes. If your thinking of using it on a 57 you would likely save yourself money picking one up at a wrecking yard. Your running board brackets hang about 6 inches lower than the frame, much the same as my 56 Ford so there is no real advantage of the after market cross member other than time spent finding and removing one from on old frame.Hope this is of help.
John P.S. if you do decide to buy after market, purchase everything from the same vendor so that everything fits, modifying new parts is a pain and hard on the nerves. Last edited by cheford; 09-15-2008 at 06:29 PM. |
