Steering wheel spline question: will 40's fit 74?
I am putting a 74 pickup tilt column into my 59. I have come across a 40's banjo steering wheel I think would look pretty cool. Does anyone know if the splines are the same?? Or are adaptors available?? Thanks in advance.

I think most GM wheels were the same. Why not just try it? Clean the splines real well, and don't force it.

Don't own it yet and they are pretty pricey. I'll probably throw a spare column in the car and make the drive to see if it fits. I was at work hoping for a quick answer!

I'll ask on the H.A.M.B.

Re: Steering wheel spline question: will 40's fit 74?
Here's a response I got:
"I don't know about the 40s, but 50s up to 80s use the same spline, although there are differences in bearings, horn contacts, turn signal switches etc that would make it kind of challenging to make a banjo wheel fit right on a tilt column." Here's the thread, but be warned. This is a pre-65 style hot rod board; we are pretty traditional over there, and would consider a 70s tilt wheel on a 50s truck sacrilege... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...=1#post3113409 Last edited by Richard D; 09-11-2008 at 05:32 PM. |

I think LeCarra makes a banjo type wheel that will work.
