Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
I searched but I could only find people selling mirrors and a lot of discussion on the rear view mirror.
I am ready to install 1968 three legged mirrors on my 1972 GMC. All of my other rigs here on the farm have the large top and bottom mount mirrors on them. Can I get you to post up some pictures of your three legged mirrors mounted on your doors. I do not want to drill into my new doors just to have them in the wrong place. Thanks Last edited by D'Animal; 09-14-2008 at 01:18 PM. |

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
Thanks for posting.
The red truck is my 1967 3/4ton GMChevy. The Green truck is my 1972 Chevy. I woulds really like to find a set of mirror brackets like this. Yes I would replace the rusted out mirrors. Last edited by D'Animal; 09-14-2008 at 05:34 PM. |

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
Here is what I have.
A 1972 GMC 3/4 Ton with a Cummins Diesel (not that that matters) with a a new set of doors and new paint on the entire rig. It has a service bed on it and set up for pulling a goose neck trailer. I need the large mirrors so I can see over and around the service bed and actually see the trailer when I back up the goose neck trailer. These are the mirrors I took off a set of 1968 doors at a junk yard. Mine is a 2500 Sierra Grande so the chrome is going back as it was. When I line up the mirror as seen in the bottom picture so the top tab is flat against the body, the bottom the mirror bracket is where the chrome is. If I move it higher up, the top tab is angled and does not look right. The entire mirror does not look right when mounted high. |

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
You could grind the bottom edges a little so they will just barely clear the chrome strip or slide them down so they will mount just below the trim (which is where I think mine were mounted on the truck I got them form).
Those are the same mirrors I have to put on my 70 SWB.

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
from what i have seen, i dont know if this is positive, 67-68s had those short arm mirrors like your's D'animal. which, 67-68s never had top trim. all the 69-72s ive seen with those style mirrors, had the longer ones like every one else has posted
you could grab both the bottem "legs" and bend them in, to make them go down longer. the top bolt is really the only one that has a definate mounting point for what it is worth, here are 3 of mine with the tripod mirrors

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
Thanks for all who posted up. I really do appreciate it.
I bit the bullet and removed the rusted mirrors from my 72 Chevy and installed them on my 72 GMC. It is no longer factory stock, but oh well. |

They are installed!
Other than being a little rusty they look great! Here is how installing the "Dumbo" towing ears turned out. The bottom picture is the rig that this Tow Rig was built for towing. Thanks again for all those who posted pictures of thier rigs. |

A little paint on those mirrors and they blend in just great.
They do like right at home on your beast!!

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
First of all,I really like this truck and have a thing for utility bodies.
There were no tripod mirrors until`69.Those mirrors you had from the`68 are aftermarket and for`73-ups.The 69/70 low-mounts(tripod) have a tab at the top that bends down and bolts against the flat of the door. The 71/72s bent slightly up and bolt to the top edge just below the window. The lower legs aren`t as long, either. The mirrors on your red`67 are Jr.RVs and were available in 67/68.The ones you used are 67-72 Sr.RVs.They could have been ordered on your truck originally.

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
Thank You for the information.
I really do apprecialte it and now know what I have and what to properly call it when I go to look for another set of the SR RV mirrors. The 3 little special headed bolts with acorn nuts were still on the top on both sides. I'm guesing factory installed. Quote:

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
aka West Coast and West Coast Jr's I think...
my 68 had jr's. i'm sticking with them in either white or stainless, they made both. Porbably easier to go to a glass shop and have some mirrors cut for you. there is also a rubber gasket inside that might need replaced. Might as well take them apart and paint them... They do look good on 4WD's and especially a beast like your truck needs them... You might as well top it off with some clearance lights as well, LMC has a set for $45 like mine.

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
My glass is good, The metal part of the housing that holds the glass is rusted through on the bottom.

My truck is still a work in progress. I don't have all of the trim bolted on yet. I will get to the clearance light shortly. |

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
The actual mirror head dimension is universal. So,any number of mirror heads will fit.If being factory matters...look at your mirrors and notice they have that bulge in the back. That`s what to look for.Only GM mirrors have that.

Re: Needs a little help (Post your pictures)
Mine have the bulge.
I bought one "aftermarket" Jr RV mirror for my 1967. It got pretty rusty in about 6 months. |
