Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
Well I've been going over the truck recently and finding where a previous owner covered up rust with bondo and may I say I can't stand when someone uses bondo to cover up rust. It would be nice if I could afford a welder so I could teach myself how to weld and save myself money when it comes to rust repair. Here's some pics that show all the spots I've found so far.

Don't dig that stuff out untill you have a welder, that bondo looks to be holding the whole truck together! JK.

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
that looks pretty scary. If that is a driver, I would say continue driving it, while you look for a new cab. I would hate (but also be very interested) to see that after it was sandblaster or dipped. the problem with the kind of rust repair that they did is that it dosen't stop the rust, and also makes it worse at he same time by trapping moisture in there. |

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
That is gonna take way more than a welder.
Mine was done that too, I replaced the cab. I agree with Jon, drive it till. If you have it blasted, there will only be small pieces left.

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
My dad ran a body shop all of his life. About 10 years ago he had this guy bring in a 67 Chevelle to get some repairs done on the rear quarter that was cracking and bubbling. When he opened the trunk he found that the previous person wedged a 2x4 behind the rust spot. Then they filled the space with newspaper and then covered it all up with bondo.

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
Wow! I've never seen a cab with that much rust! especially up high like that. Have you looked at the floors yet? I'd have to agree with the others a new cab might be the best option.

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
Mine rusted from the inside!
It still had the original rockers and floors were good. The weep holes had been plugged when it got a paintjob and a bit of work done. High humidity in La. caused the lower 5 inches to rust away. It sucks, but you deal with it and move on.

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
That roof looks just like mine!!! There was rust trails down the inside of the A pillar into the glovebox (it was rotted under the door), and the duck tail had about two gallons of mud in it. You may need at least another roof. There are some sick compound curves to duplicate up there and I have yet to find anyone on this board that has tackled fixin it. Up here in Ohio we know sumptin about rust. I just wound up buying a doner truck just for the roof/cab. Most of the rest can be replaced. Good luck. Don't give up. Doug

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
The doors are straight and rust free, it's just those bottom few inches need replacing and thankfully they make the inner and outer patch panels. The hood and front fenders are straight too, it's just those areas you see in the pictures. Good thing they make the lower panels for the fenders but the hood panels are gonna have to come from another hood. I already pulled up the floormat a couple years ago and the front half of the floorboard didn't look too good. It looked like bondo had been smeared all over it and then painted over. I thought the back half of the floor was good until I had to put a gas tank in it earlier this year and found a rusted crack a couple inches long on the back right corner. The outer roof panel looks good it's just the section above the windshield on the inside needs replacing. I'm gonna see what can be done withe the cab before I buy another cab because they make the floorpans and cab corners, it's just those two spots on the dash and above the windshield. It's my daily driver though so it will be awhile before I can get it fixed. For the time being I'm going to try and cut out the rusted areas and seal them so the surrounding areas don't rust.

I have a 62 cab that not near as bad as yours. The floor and fire wall needs some help, but its free to a good home.

Re: Who hates rust? I DO!!!!
If you want take a screw driver and jab a hole in that crack, then get a vaccuum cleaner, and you will suck a good couple pounds of dirt out of that cab brace. some will probably still be wet.
