Carrier Bearing Help!!
On the way home tonight, the truck started making a strange rattling noise. It sounds like it's coming from under the bed.
Could this possibly be the carrier bearing going out? It only makes the noise when traveling, not while it's sitting still idling. Not much of a mechanic, but I'm trying. Anybody have experience w/carrier bearings going out? Thanks, Greg |

Re: Carrier Bearing Help!!
Sounds like it. My Center support Bearing recently broke. The same sound coming from under the bed. Don't drive it any further. Crawl under and take a look, it will be easy to see. Good luck.

Re: Carrier Bearing Help!!
If it's in good shape, it should be centered and not laying on the bottom......correct?

Re: Carrier Bearing Help!!
That is correct.
After going through 2 carrier bearings back in the 90's, I had a one piece drive shaft made and haven't had any trouble since then. Mine is a 71 short bed. I think you could have one made for about $300. john
