some day
2wd Blazer build

Well this may be a very slow build or not even a build at all, only time will tell. But ether way I gave the motor and trans to my friends two sons for their 46 Chevy truck project they are working on. I have an 05 5.3 Vortec and 4L60E that just might find its way into this build. I also have a bought and paid for DropMember that may get up graded to a C4/C5 DropMember before it is shipped out. Other than that I am very undecided on this build. I may just do all the metal work and sell it off or I may do a half stock build with a few upgrades and sell. Or what I would like to do but I am sure I will change my mind on it a few times before anything is set in stone is to do a full custom build with the out side keeping a some what stockish look but still have many exterior mods. Then go crazy with the sheet metal work on the inside and under the hood to really show case just what twisted things I can do. So for now here are just some pics to look at of the 70 in it's current shape. Please give all your thoughts on this project.

I'm definitely ready to watch your next project progress - especially since I'm finding no free time to continue on my project!!

You've got a tough decision ahead of you for what to do to this Blazer. I think they are so "right" in factory shape, that part of me says, just get it back to better than factory shape, but then I also think keeping the outside basically factory and doing some magic on the interior would be cool too. I guess I'd lean more towards the second option.

I always like the subtle mods that you do... the one's like the 68 hood on the newer grille, firewall mods, tailgate latch relocation with factory trim,

Those are the items that real truck guys notice but look natural to the average person...

How about a 2 door Tahoe hardtop with a liftgate?

No but I have thought about using truck doors (with tops) and make my own Hard top with some slight changes. The truck doors would be for the better sealing and more rigid structure.

Or better yet I sell the crawler so I can afford some of the ideas in my head for the Blazer build! By the way your interior turned out sweet! How has the OBA been working for you?

We will See, I am still open to going any direction on it but I would like the all out as well. I am playing with some off the wall Hybrid C5 IRS set up right now just seeing what might or might not work

I sometimes wonder why I didn't leave it alone but in the end I think it is going to be worth it. That paint was nice but it was by no means perfect, keep us up to date I can't wait to see what you are going to do with your personal blazer

Thanks for giving me the inspiration to get started on destroying and perfectally good factory 2wd blazer that is sure to make folks think I am a true idiot

Hmmm, I've heard that too for some reason??

Kevin, a quick question if you don't mind the hijack: My Dad may be getting a cherry 72 4x4 Blazer. If he does, we have talked about going 4x2 with it, and putting on my extra 68 front clip. Am I correct to understand that a 2wd front crossmember will bolt up to the frame with little/no mods, and to use the trailing arms in the back I would need to build brackets for the outside of the frame for the coil springs to mount to? Any other info on converting one of these would be much appreciated!

I was wondering about the possibilities of a 73 and up tail gate with the roll up window. Smoothed top with some fiberglass work to smooth the edges some more. Clean off the drip edge, maybe even a short chop, like 2". How would some lower body moldings look on one of these, like they used to do in the 90's with that body style and S-10's etc. Mold the bumpers into the body and have them taller like the newer styles. Kind of like modernizing with the original body lines intact.

I don't really care, just keep building stuff. We all appreciate the work you do.

I am pretty much a keep the truck all original type of guy. Other than rims and minor things I cringe to see cherry originals cut up. However I also understand to each their own. I also greatly respect and admire the work and ingenuity it takes to properly customize something. So for that I applaud the customizers. Hey they dont complain in restoration build threads about how boring the truck will be since it is going back to stock, so why should restorers knock on you guys.

Also my three favorite builds that I have seen on this forum are all custom jobs. They are the traizer project you did, the 4th door burb, and the suburban to tahoe project. They are the most informative projects that I have followed. And even though they are customizing they are allowing me to get a better knowledge of how these trucks were engineered and how to best fix them. Thanks keep the pics and info coming.

Well since two of the three you mentioned are mine than I am sure what ever I do you will aprove or at least appreciate.

I am not sure about that. It is extremely time consuming but the thought is still out their. If I do it and it is a big if right now I may include the entire Blazer build showing all the mods as well as the rust repair.

The only reason I wouldn't want to cut up a 2wd Blazer frame is that I'd rather use the 4x4 frame to get even lower.
