got a new truck

I`ve been a member for a a while but always had a 60`s truck. Well today I picked up a pretty clean 84 shortbed stepside. It`s pretty basic. It has a 305/700R4 set up. Nothing fancy at all, just a clean driver. I have some plans for it but for now it`s just going to be my daily driver. I`ll get some pics up soon.

Re: got a new truck

Here are some pics. The camera died before I could get some engine shots but it`s a bone stock 305. I paid $1600 for it. It has a fresh tranny, new tires, new steering box and tie rods, pioneer cd player, and a bunch of recipts for work done recently that are about $3000 in repairs. THere is some minor dents here and there but I didn`t see any rot at all. It looks like it was a old utility truck because it was orange/yellow originaly and is pretty basic, no carper or gauges and there are 2 plugs on the roof where there were lights or something. Did I get a decent deal?

Re: got a new truck

i think you got a decent deal if it has a new trans and all. I like the bare bones truck. crank windows and alll that equals less things to break. Nice truck

Re: got a new truck

Thanks guys. Yeah they crank but I just found out that the driver window pops out of the door if you don`t guide it when rollong it up and the driver wing window is sealed shut and the wing lock is ready to fall off but other than that it`s ok. Passed smog today with only needing a new gas cap.

Re: got a new truck

You got a good deal. Nice thing about these trucks is all that's easy to fix, and parts are cheap as well as abundant.

Yeah I had a 75 GMC years ago and briefly had a 84 suburban a couple years back so I got a bunch of catologs and there is plenty of parts available which is a big reason I was looiking for a 73-87 truck.

On a side note, I just found a 87 TBI engine still running in the truck for $200. The guy said if I help him pull it I can have any of the electrical stuff I want. Is that a decent deal? Is it worth it to go that route or should I stick with a carb?

Re: got a new truck

Nope. You got taken. You better drive it to michigan and drop it off in my drive today. You can drive my rusty 87 diesel home in exchange.

Seriously, nice score. Rust free sheet metal would cost that here in Michigan. That it rusn is a serious plus.

Well I just pidcked up a 93 chevy seat today so that will be the first change. I want to finish building my 350 and drop that in to replce the 305. I thought about going TBI since I foundd a whole set up cheap but I don`t think it`s a practical swap right now. I also want to lower it, maybe a 4/6 or 5/6, and some different wheels and tires. I also might swap the bed for a fleetside I found for $100. It`ll be a long road since it`s going to be my daily driver so no long periods of down time and the fact that I`m broke, lol. Took just about every last penny for me to buy the truck in the first place since I didn`t plan to spend this much.

Looks like a nice start. I would keep the step side if it is in good condition.

Well depending on how long it would take to actually swap beds it might be a possability in the future.

I already found a short fleet bed for $100 but I think it`ll be gone by the time I can go get it. I don`t have any time this weekend at all.
