Progress on the Longhorn. (baby steps)
I dropped the tranny out of her...key word...DROPPED. I guess dropping it on the pavement is better than the norm for me...dropping it onto my chest.
Kinda interesting thing on the tranny... The Pontiac (I'm asuming Pontiac...it could be out of any Buick Olds or pontiac) TH350 looks a little funny compaired to the Chevy one... Here is the Short shaft Chevy TH350 in the GMC... And this is the BOP TH350... (I am asuming it is a TH350...I guess I oughta look into it some more huh?) Another interesting thing on that tranny...it has an identity problem. It thinks it is a Ford tranny. Hmmmmm. Also found quite an exhaust restriction under there too. Just kidding! So does any of our resident Pontiac guys know where I can find a build date...or maybe even a number telling me what it may have come out of? Like I said...baby steps. That's all that I got done today. |

That tranny looks just like mine. What is the difference between a BOP tranny and a Chevy one? My headers wouldn't fit because the passenger side header hit the piecs circled in red. But it bolted right up to my SBC engine, I thought in order for that to happen you needed an adapter, which I do not have. I am confused. Sorry to hijack your post, just confused a bit.

I think that tranny is a 250c not a 350. The 250 is an earlier version of the th350. C4?? chevy ought to be ashamed to put that on there!

The 250 is a LATER version of the 350. I don't know if it was BOP or not. Look at the trans he took out, the top of the bellhousing compared to the one lower and you will see the difference in a Chevy vs. BOP trans.

Jason...I pulled it out for a few reasons...mostly becouse it bleeds REAL bad and I am sick of the kitty litter dance in the driveway to keep it somewhat presentable. I'm taking it to work and gonna crack it open and have our tranny guru look at it. The fluid is bright red....that's a good sign.I know it is not a 250C...no lock up converter. Anything with a C on it has a lock up in there. Plus, the pan is TH350 shaped.

could it be a standard th200 tranny?
The pans on a th200 and 350 look almost identical only a th200 has the words metric in raised letters on the bottom of the pan

I would have to say that looks like a TH350. Ive had mine out of my car quite a few times. Bad tranny builder. Any who, If I remeber correctly then you should beable to find a tag on the servo. I think not totally sure, its been awhile. I have a TH400 that I'll sale you.

Thanks, but I already have one in the basement. I'm not going to spend money to swap it in there untill I KNOW it is good...Fine 69 has a good tranny guy, i just need to save up a couple bucks.

If you are gonna have a tranny guy go "through" the TH350, why not have him do the TH400? That would be the better trans for that big ole' caddy engine. . . .

I 2nd Racedvl's suggestion..... heavy truck, & big inch engine. I ran a 400t behind the 425 cad in my longhorn, & it didnt seem to hurt the power at all......

Hey longhornmail, wonder what that C4 means. My T350 has C6 on it below where yours says C4.

Jason...they guy at work is gonna peak into it and tell me his opinion on the tranny's condition...and do it for free. All I'm gonna do is put front and rear seals, and a pan gasket/filter in it.
If I were to use the TH400, (needin rebuilt) it'll cost 2 bills to have it rebuilt, then another 100 for driveshaft mods. I just don't have 300 bucks right now. I can hardly scrape up the 20 or so for the seals and filter. |

longhornmail- I happen to have a pontiac th350 in the garage. i went and checked it. there is no c4 on the case, but it does look very similair to your tranny in the photo, your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks for the effort there Red.
In all reality, what ever it happens to be, it's gonna go in there untill it scatters all over the road. It'd just be nice to be able to get the proper filter and gasket the first time when i do the fluid chainge. |
