custom tail light idea?

I'm not really digging the caddy lights on my 87 burb. They're too tall for the bodyline, and i really don't like the way they look. I've been racking my brain trying to think of some custom tail light ideas but i'm coming up empty. The only thing i've come up with that's a little different is using stock tail lights or clear (or white) tails and painting over them, or smoking them since they'll be over flat black. Can this be done? Can i paint over clear lenses and have the bulbs show up? I've seen tails in the graphics before, but i've only seen them over red or white, i'm not sure how it will be over flat black.

Re: custom tail light idea?

Here's my tinted tail light lenses. A bit of black paint mixed into a clear coat and sprayed over new aftermarket stock style lenses with the L.E.D. panels in place of the stock bulbs.

x2 im liking the caddy lights as well.

but i think that the new chevy silverados lights would look good, they would keep a very close bodyline as ur ur burb

Re: custom tail light idea?

On your Caddy lights if you had switched them and rotate them so the fat part is at the top and start them at the first body line and ran them down to the bottom of the rear quarter they would've looked much better
drop me your e-mail and I'll show you a pic!

dude, it's just a lexan window with the license plate box built in there, i hate it, i never liked it, that's one of the first body mods i'm tackling, i'm doing a roll pan with the plate in the middle. i already have donor barn doors with good windows, lol. The box in the window is all cracked and lets in water like a mofo.

and desertrat, thanks for the photoshops, but do you really think i'm gonna keep that nasty roll pan and the 3" barn door hinges, lol? the photoshops look like 59 caddy tails, i really liked that look in my s10 but i don't think i could make it look right in the burb.

blazn, thanks for the idea, that's actually pretty cool looking, and that's the style roll pan i'm going with (having the channel that the doors close in making the roll start flush with the doors instead of sucking underneath the doors.
