Which HEI.....
I'm wanting to swap out my points distributor for a HEI set up. I was wondering what year/model vehicle is the best to swap over to so I know what I should be looking for at the yard to get the distributor out of? I did a search and couldn't find anything so if any of you know a link off the top of your head feel free to post.

Re: Which HEI.....
Wow, that's cheap!
I bought an ACCEL from O'Reilly's for $120, after giving up on the junkyard unit that was in my truck. It's not just the module, rotor and cap that can give you trouble, but also the pickup coil and the bushings. These are items that a new/reman will have that have been replaced in the reman process. When the wire to the pickup coil breaks, you have to pull and disassemble the unit to fix it.

Re: Which HEI.....
+2 on skip white on ebay. Great price and fast shipping. Many people have run his HEI's with no problems.

Re: Which HEI.....
I'm fairly certain HEIs are pretty much all the same. You can get billet ones, install hotter coils, or different advance weights and such, but essentially, they're all the same. The quality of the parts they're built with does have an effect on how they run, as well as worn out bushings.

Re: Which HEI.....
I've bought 2 from Skip White on ebay. The only problem I've had was one of the modules didn't last 500 miles. Quality seems good to me. He sells a good set of plug wires too.

Re: Which HEI.....
You can't rebuild an old HEI for what the skip white one costs, so that is a no brainer there. If the modules burn up, i believe he has a one year warrantee as well, just send it back.

Re: Which HEI.....
Another vote for Skip White - he sells good stuff. I bought a set of those Wysco roller rockers that he has....was extremely impressed with the quality. They are every bit as nice as the big named stuff that I have used in the past.
And just to answer a question above.....SBC and BBC take the same distributor.

Re: Which HEI.....
another skip white buyer here. Bought 4 and one developed a problem. I called him up and he had a new replacement at my house in 2 days. I then shipped the old one back in the same box. Good customer service. Jmho.

I looked at that one hard myself. I could not find a single HEI in the Summit catalog with a 65,000 volt coil comparable to his. While I was trying to find one to compare it with in the catalog the last 2 sold before I could get one. If he sells them every day for $49 and they are brand new units it has to be missing something when reman'd factory units are going for over a $100. Don't ya think?

Re: Which HEI.....
Thanks for all the good info and help guys it been appreciated. When I get done doing a few other upgrades I think I'll go with a Skip Whites Distributor but for now it looks like I'll be getting a good HEI from a fellow board member.
