Hay everyone. I need to get the parking brake cable off and replace it. I haven't looked at it in a long time but, I need help on how to get it out/off the drum. I tried about a year ago but couldn't figure it out. The right side sticks making it feel like i am always pulling a trailer. Any tips or pics would be great. Thanks everyone.

the cable is held to the backing plate by barbed fingers/the way i remove them is to push them into the backing plat and put a very small hose clamp around the fingers then you can pull the cable out once the fingers are compressed

have you ever thought of lubricating the cable with a good quality lubericant it's alot easier than replacing cables

If you remove it remember to clean the end of the cable sheild with the barbs. Lots of dirt and brake dust packs in there making it difficult to see and compress. WES

Here is how I do it. If I wont be using the cable again, which is 99% of the time. I just break off the three barbs and it will slide right out. They are very brittle and will break off with very little pressure. As for getting them off to reuse them I try to flatten the barbs. Usually with a flat blade screw driver and a hammer. Or if you are real lucky you might find a tool by lisle tools. It has a tool especially to do this. I dont have the part number yet but will soon. It is a special round socket that compreses the barbs all at the same time and they just slide out.
