69 Big block motor mounts. where to buy?
I am looking for motor mounts for a 69 big block. I got the frame mounts for a big block but cannot seem to find any mounts except year one and they want $171 for them. Can anyone tell me where you can find some of these. Thanks

Re: 69 Big block motor mounts. where to buy?
Sorry to say but, that's pretty much the going price for the 68-71 mounts,
I "cheat" by using a small block mount with a longer bolt and a large thick washer, (one from a small block harmonic balancer is perfect) never have had any "issues" yet. |

Same Here!!!!!! Cost effective and it gives me time to find the right ones for the right price. I have had them in for 8 years now.

Re: 69 Big block motor mounts. where to buy?
I am glad to here that some others have done the same thing to make up for the cost and lack of 68-71 BB motor mounts. I always had that thought that it was getto, but it works out great.

Re: 69 Big block motor mounts. where to buy?
What is the difference between BB and SB mounts? I didn’t realize there was a difference…..now , you all got me wondering what is on my 1968 GMC with a 396. I had a 350 in it for a short period of time in high school when I grenade the first 396 and swore I used the same mounts on both the SB and BB. That has been 17 years ago so I may have forgot about changing them.
Hmm, maybe that my truck keeps eating left side engine mounts while detroying fan shrouds in the meantime. Bad picture but can you tell by this what mounts I have? The towers are indeed BB.

Can't really tell by your picture. You would have to look under the tower to see if it is two pieces,
Here is a drawing of the factory style 68-70 big block mounts. Last edited by Livrat; 11-10-2008 at 11:56 PM. |

I just did an engine swap on a C20 ’72 with a SB to a ’90 TBI 350 and it didn’t even occur to me that the mounts were different from my GMC. Then again, I haven't had the engine out of my GMC since 1992. Actually, I converted the ’72 C20 to ’76 saddle type mounts during the swap as the ’90 exhaust manifolds would not clear the SB engine mount towers and will probably do the same to the GMC as I am planning an 8.1L swap in the near future. It seems the ’67 – ’72 engine mounts have a history of breaking and causing plenty of damage while doing so. Why bother with the original style mounts that have a history of breaking unless it is a full on all original show truck? This is what I used on the '72....

I prefer to use the 73 and up towers and mounts, The design is much better but mostly because they are very inexpensive compared to the original Big Block ones. But one has to be careful there, I have run across 3 different styles of towers and several different version of the engine "cup". some will make the engine sit too high and others will not even line up..
