I am a hillbilly and these pictures prove it

I've been outfitting my 3/4 ton into my welding truck.

I'm building all the racks and stuff for my torch and Bobcat welder to be able to do all fabrication out in the field.

I figured while I was at it, I'd build a tailgate. I bought the truck without a gate at all.

I think the name in the middle puts me firmly in the redneck category.

Actually I think to be an "actual" redneck you have to have mudder tires on the back with regular tires on the front. Your close though

Show me the latch/handle assembly. My pos aftermarket tailgate is going in the trash soon. My neighbor gave me a homemade pipe gate that came off a '76,so i am ging to clean it up & mod it to fit my '72.

I like it! To be more redneck it may need some bailing twine tied to it. MAybe to hold a "same sh!t - difrint day" sign. If my tailgate gets much worse I may do the same thing. People here expect me to make something whenever stuff breaks.

Is that your Taco?

The Tacoma ? Yes it's mine. I ordered it earlier in the year when gas prices were so high. My short bed gets 10 mpg and the Tacoma gets 24. Money well spent.

I did have to order it and wait a month to get it as it's a real unusual truck in that configuration.

Looks to me like your a fabricator/welder with a country accent. If you were a Hilbilly, that tailgate would be made from a shipping pallet and the name would be spray painted on.

Very Redneck, I agree you need some Boggers on the back and a nice Fat Round pipe bumper would top it off.....and maybe a Rebel flag!

I'm actually building the pipe bumper right now. 4 inch round pipe with rounded corners and treadplate on top. Recessed license plate and back up lights with hidden reciever hitch behind the license plate. I will post pictures when I'm done with it.

A hillbilly in flat land country? Maybe a "coastalbilly."

Besides what's been mentioned already, here's a few more things to complement the look.

A bale of hay.
Upside down rubber boots between the cab and bed.
Got to have a chain and coil of hemp rope in there.
Throw a set of jumper cables in.
And for sure a pair of cojones hanging from the trailer hitch when your done.

One more thing, a sticker showing Calvin pi##ng on a Ferd.

For a truly Redneck application: I know a carpenter contractor-type guy who built one of those for his rig (6" pipe), & took pains when welding to be sure it was airtight. Coupla fittings & a hose in the bed toolbox, & he always had a big onboard portable airtank for refilling those frequent flats from on-the-job nails in his tires, to get him to the tire store & save him having to change flat tires quite as often.

Not too bad of an idea really.

He used to fill it up to the max pressure that his compressor could give him, & store the compressed air there until he needed it.

I sometimes wondered what would happen if he got rear-ended really hard, with that "tank-full of compressed air" as his back bumper. Probably nothing, but my mind can create some funny, or not-so-funny scenarios.

OK here's my fabricated tailgate. Originally on my 83 made to be able to close on the camper door and hold a lot of weight for a sort of "back porch" when camping.

Not nearly as nice as yours but I figured I'd keep the thread going.

Now you just need some tires with "no hunting" spray painted on them. You can find a nice set hanging on fence posts sometimes.

You guys got me wrong. I'm rigging it to be my mobile welding truck. The bed will be full of a very large welder, a torch rig, and lots of other welding stuff.

Wait till you see the bumper though. It's big enough to build an elementry school on.

Oh, one of those uppity red necks then...

You got enough to handle that load? May have to go with extra heavy duty springs. Some welding rigs with oxy/acetylene tanks that I've seen are pretty heavy!
