OK,,,,

I put my blazer tank in quite a while ago, Hooked everything up, Now today I set the BED on the frame and low and behold, My crossmember comes across just where the FUEL INLET is, and I'm going to have to RELIEVE (CUT) quite a bit out of the crossmember.
Is this a common occurance? Must be, I'm sure mine's no different then yours.

We have discovered that in most if not all cases that this is the case. It doesn't seem to matter if it is a long bed, short bed, wood bottom bed, fleetside or stepside. This is why we are going to try to do a comprehensive artical on this instalation process this year and then we will publish it in our helpfull tips section of our website. Hey Ron,
My cross member was torched and then a piece of angle iron was welded above it to re-strengthen it.

had to cut mine also but the bad part of the whole deal is the cheesy lock ring that is supposed to seal the oring on the float asembly. mine leaks terrible,tried new oring, dont have another lock ring, and where i purchased the tank assembly is no help. anytime i weld or cut on the truck i have to pull the tank out and hide it from the sparks,the alternative is grim.

Unless you have a body lift your gonna have to cut quite a bit out of it. I have pics of mine on my website.

I don't know if anyone else has done this or not but I mounted my tank without the straps. What I did was hogged out the holes in the flange of the tank. I Jacked the tank up to the underside of the frame and ran long bolts through the lower frame lip, through rubber threaded grommets through the tank flanges and through another rubber threaded grommet. Then I put a lock washer and nut on the end. With this the tank sits a little lower than with the straps and the rubber will allow the frame to flex and not crack the tank.

I am going to solve the problem this weekend. I have a Short Step wood bed, so i think things may end up being a little different. I'm just wondering about the wood-rail bolts.

Can you e-mail me or even post pictures of your under bed gun safe??? I have a Pistol case under the seat. It's factory built and I pop riveted to the floor. I think i bought it through CRUTCH FIELD, They sell them as Pull-out Stereo holders. I use mine for everything, It's great when you go away from your truck and don't want to take your wallet, keys etc.

it is built in between 2 cross sills under the flatbed. i welded a plate across one end and fabbed a door and latch across the other. not pretty but theives probably wouldnt look under there and recognize it . sorry no pics. no digital camera, but christmas is on the way....
