Tough decision
Fingers crossed, my truck should hopefully sell tomorrow.
Im looking at buying one of these two trucks. I'm having a tough time deciding I like the looks of the fleetside better but it doesnt have the parts on the engine that Im looking for on the other hand the stepper has a lot of new parts but it has a saginaw and Im not sure I want a standard transmission. I live in Houston and traffic is horrible. Then again over time Id like to build a 383 with 700r4. AHHH, Im going to go crazy trying to decide. I just need to go look at them and see which one calls my name. Here are the listings http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/917613463.html http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/925452781.html

Re: Tough decision
ACtually, the '68 is my choice - I like fleetsides.

Re: Tough decision
I would have a problem also because the 68 does not have the 68 grille that I like so well and the 71 doesn't have the interior or disc brakes like a 72 has that I like so they sort of offset things in my mind in that respect .. but fleetsides are still more popular over all so the 68 I think would win me over.. Not much help is it ..LOL papa

Re: Tough decision
the stepside appears to have alot more quality brand name stuff with better attention to detail in the build , the fleet looks to be a hacked paste and cut conglamoration of whatever with just a thrown together hacker delux treatment with a saturday afternoon backyard paintjob

Re: Tough decision
First I saw the Fleetside and thought,"eh...so-so".Then,saw the Stepside and I`d no doubt want the Stepside.I think it`s a better truck overall for the money.Besides, the seller says,"Make offer",and the other guy says,"reduced again from $5,000".Definately,at least,a better description. But,that says alot.To me,if it`s between these two,it`s a no brainer.

Re: Tough decision
I cant believe I am saying this but I like the stepside better at least between this two choices. The stepside looks better on the picts, go look at both of them in person and see which one is better. I am a fleetside guy but that stepside actually looks good. Let us know how you make out.

Re: Tough decision
The step-side does look nice. My only concern with the step-side is compression ratio. I'd look into seeing what compression ratio you'll have w/ .060 over, .125 pop ups and 76cc chamber heads. It might not be bad because of the large chamber heads. I'd hate to get something home and figure out I have to put octane boost and 91 octane in it. My other .02

Re: Tough decision
I'd be concerned about .060 over. I'd go with the fleetside.

Re: Tough decision
Well I just sold my truck. Im going to look at the fleetside today.
It has a 350 with about 200 miles, th350 with the same miles. Miled cam, edelbrock carb, aluminum intake, headers, billet distributor. He's unsure of the gears but says it screams on the highway so Im assuming 3:73 or higher. Flowmaster exhaust. No rust in the bed, only rust is in the rockers, 96 style bench seat. Gauges don't work but he's installed aftermarket. Fuel gauge works sometimes so I'll check the fuel sending unit. Ohh and wife is not happy but who cares.
