Re: posi id?

it would have option g80 on the glove box sticker, or look on the fill plug for a plastic tag. only other way is to pull the cover

Re: posi id?

My suburban has a sticker where the spare tire goes saying that the vehicle is equiped with a power lock ("posi track") rear end. Not sure where that sticker would be on a truck but I am sure it has one. Also my SPID specifically states that the truck came with the optional power lock rear end. Also I noticed a metal tag that is bolted to the rear end on the pumpkin that also identifies it as a posi.

i know on 67 pickups equiped with a detroit locker rear end there is a sticker behind the seat, i cant remember which side. i am also not sure if 68-72 pickups have the sticker is in the same place or if that have it at all.
i think the easiest ways to check for a posi are jack it up and spin the wheels, both wheels will spin the same way if posi, otherwise just go burn some rubber

it might have a G86 no spin rear axle or a G87 power locker, the G80 code is the positraction rear axle codes found on the glove box door.

Re: posi id?

THe truck that I took my posi from said it on the glovebox sticker and it had a red plastic tag on the diff oil filler say "limited-slip additive" or something...

edit, and if you step on the long pedal real hard you will leave two black marks on the road...

Re: posi id?

It may still have the metal tag attached to one of the bolts on the differential cover that should show if it is a posi or limited slip along with the original gear ratio. Most of the time guys are pretty good about putting those back if they have the cover off.

Re: posi id?

just jack up the back end and spin the tires. If they both turn forward, you have a posi. If they turn opposite, you have a uni-fryer.

Re: posi id?

The filler plug on a posi is different as well. I will take some pictures for you of tag (red tag on filler is gone, but metal tag on cover still in place) and plug this afternoon if you will post pictures. Thanks Harold
