LILRED66... please dont take this the wrong way but i have to ask. are you wealthy, or just very successful? or have you just spent alot of time collecting these beautiful trucks and parts? i guess what im asking is do you restore them for a living.. or where does your budget come from. if you dont wish to answer that i understand. im just curious because i know how costly this hobby can and does get. very nice shop. i have the shop i just need the tools to go in it. lol

I am a commercial general contractor by trade, hence I have a building with an office, warehouse space and a fenced parking area. I am by no means wealthy and with the present state of the economy, I have sold a few of my trucks to help keep the doors open. I rent my building and share space between my business and my 4-5-6 Chevy trucks. I am been in the commerical construction industry for 20 years and if I could, I would restore 4-5-6 Chevy trucks for a living.

I have purchased many 4-5-6 Chevy trucks over the past several years and enjoy working on them, as well as, helping others with their projects or 4-5-6 Chevy truck parts they may need for their project, however I don't do it for a living.

I try to be very organized, in order to fit my business and trucks into the same building/parking area. I also sleep better at night knowing that when I come into the shop the next time, things are in order and I am ready to start working with a clean slate.

My goal in posting pictures of my operation was to share a few tricks for storing/organizing things with the others in the forum, in hopes that others will do the same. I like to see how others do it.

Photos are a bit old. Jeep is a bit bigger and uglier, VW and trailer are gone because that is where the truck lives now with its bed off.

Rich? Not a chance. Literally everything I own is either used, hand me down or I saved like a mother to buy it. I only have that garage because when we went to build our place my wife's father gave us an acre of land and well I put all the money into the garage opposed to the purchase of the property.

Thats a nice shop Tony, I would post pics of mine, but just walk outside and find the dirtiest, most gravel covered spot in the yard and thats what I work in since my divorce.

2 car garage for me for now and drivind 20 miles to parents shop, makes it kind of a pain when you need/forget something...

Nice work area there Tony, after 24 years of the gravel work shop and then the last 16 with a drive under garage. A drive under garage is nice if your single. It's a constant battle over the smells that come from that. I couldn't even use a rattle can without hearing "you sprayin' paint down there"

One time I primed a whole truck and boy was that hell. The house smelled for days. It was winter time and it was too cold to spray outside. I finally got my shop built last year. I can go in there and make noise and weird smells and not catch any grief.

These pix are when I first moved in. I keep looking for some used kitchen cabinets to help keep things a bit more organized. It's a constant battle. Once my truck gets together it will free up alot of space. Maybe then I can get things the way that I want it.

I haven't finished the sheetrock on the left wall because I plan on running water,cable and phone. The right wall might get a walk thru door once I extend the roof over the right side for a covered parking area. I will put the compressor in it's own insulated room outside. That will be a few years down the road.

Thanks for the kudos. I picked up the air tool storage idea from one of my woodworking mags. I should have made the angle iron longer and spaced the chucks out more because the tools are a little too close. Find the cheapest female connectors, since they won't be used under pressure. As you can see, I used the fancy ones because that is all I had at the time.

I found the engine stands on eBay. I bought 5 of them for less than $100.00 total and decided I couldn't buy the tubing, hardware and casters, to do five of them, for $100.00, let alone the time to fabricate and paint.

I'm glad you found something that works for you.

I have a gas forced-air heater and an electric forced-air heater, but they get rather expensive in a CMU building with no insulation. I am kicking around the idea of getting a quartz heater or a pellet stove.
