Upgrade control arms?

Front suspension is torn down on my 66 waiting for bags to come. I have dropped spindles and disc brakes on it now. The truck has been converted to 73-87 brake parts, running later ball joints as well. Will there be a big improvement to switch to later arms be able to run poly bushings? Should I just clean up what I have and stick with the metal to metal 1966 design?

What say you?

Re: Upgrade control arms?

I would say the coil spring 60's trucks are the first trucks to have a car like ride. If you have ever rode in a 50's or earlier truck you will notice the 63-66 ride a lot better. I don't think you need to bother with newer control arms just to run poly bushings. If handling is of concern run bigger anti sway bars.

X2...I think if you went to the effort to switch control arms, I think you would find going to a tubular control arms for our trucks would be a better choice than going to another stamped steel arm from a later gen. truck. Good luck and post some photos of your bagged front suspension.

Re: Upgrade control arms?

I know in the Jeep suspensions that Rubber rides nicer than Poly, but Poly lasts well way longer. Is there a big difference in the switch from rubber to Poly with these suspensions?

Re: Upgrade control arms?

I always used poly on my Novas. Big difference from rubber on them.
