I finally remembered to grab a delay wiper switch from work. I dont know how much i can buy them for this one was sitting in out leftover parts bin and i grabed to see if it will fit behind the dash this weekend. I will post pics of it installed when i get a chance to give it a try.

Its out of a Blue Bird school bus i should be able to get them at a pretty reasonable cost. You could also look for a Blue Bird parts place and go buy one localy i will post the part number and wiring schematic when i get it installed. I have to see if it will fit behind the dash first its pretty big. The wiring shouldnt involve much also im not sure the original knob will fit it may require some work.

Count me in on this one! I hope this works out, would love to have delay wipers. Damn we are spoilt huh? I remember back in the day, when there wasn't such a thing, now we just got to have it!!

yes it has the washer built in. I plan to do some work to the truck tomorow so i should have some more info then.

I just hope i could figure out what the wires do. Just a little paitence and my test light an I could figure it out

they have been using the same delay wiper switches for at least 6 or 7 years that i know of. Cole Hersee makes the switch.

MMMEEEEE TOOOOl. Now for you young'uns--we used to have wiper delay's way back when. They were called vacuum actuated wipers. Whenever you when up a hill, you have a long delay!!
I would love to upgrade to a good wiper delay switch with washer control built in so keep us all posted with this effort. You know, the more I think about it, this might be part of an idea that could help all board members----
What if we built a "BEST COMMON UPGRADES" sub-site that would go into simple, inexpensive, upgrades that are a great benefit to our old trucks??? Things like:
HEI, Headers, internal regulated altinators, repositioned gas tanks, intermittent wiper upgrade, tach dash upgrade, etc. None of these upgrades are very expensive considering the benefit they give our trucks. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK??? Huck

Great! Keep us in the loop. My wiper switch is going out on the beater as we speak. It won't start in low speed anymore, you have to put it in high for a couple of minutes first.

ok here's the deal. The switch can be made to work. The first problem is that the shaft where the retaining nut goes is smaller. This woulnt be a problem except the little chrome trim ring wont fit. There are two ways this can be overcome that i can come up with
1= find a threaded bushing to convert up to the larger size
2= put on the nut that comes with the switch and use the little square holes in the trim ring to mount it with sheet metal screws.

Next problem is the knob hole is too small but not by much i drilled mine out by hand with a 1/4 drill bit and a pair of pliers.

Now on too the wiring. The gm switch grounds the wires to activate the wiper motor and the washer selenoid. My switch uses power so it will require 3 relays to convet power to ground.

If someone can come up with a bushing for the trim ring the install would be pretty easy. I messed with it for a couple hours today and pretty much got it ready to go. I used the screw trick to hold on my trim ring. Tomorow i will take it apart to make things a little neater and take pictures so you can see what it looks like. Also i will draw a schematic but dont expect it to be pretty i'm not much of an artist. Thats enough rambling from me for now i will keep everyone posted.

PS: my wipers were working today with the delay and on low i ran out of connectors to finish the relay setup but it does work!!!

Now I'm no PC wizard here but I would be willing to try to pull together some of the more common (cheap, easy, well described) upgrades that we've all either used or heard about. Would require help from all and understanding that this would not include "personalized modifications that are unique to ---custom show stuff, super high performance, or beer can wrapped over the tailpipe stuff".
If I can get some teckie help on "how-too's" or someone who has the know how to build the location, I will pull down, edit, etc. What do you all think and do I have any real support or just
"Good idea dude and let me know when you're done!" BS help?

Things like relocation of the gas tank may save a life which would be well worth all our efforts. Thoughts _____actual help______? Blue_69~~~~~keep it up and do your best to keep it simple~~~we all can't wait!!

That is the sweetest thing , but can anyone figure out how to use a switch like the ones on the Gm blinker handle. I am trying to remove all the knobs from the dash including the lights.
Does anyone know how to do thiswith the GM wiper motor?
