Stiffen up the rear

I have lowering springs on the rear but I haul motorcycles and pull low boy trailers very regulary. Is there a stiffer lowering spring I can install?

Here's the spring. I think it says 6101-4, but I took the picture this morning and don't remember for sure.

You would be better off putting an airbag back there. You can set the ride height depending on your load.

I'll have to agree. To get it all, you will need bags. Get leveling switches, and your golden. No matter the load, you will keep your stance. Well, with in reason anyway.

I have leaf springs, so my plan is to use air overload bags to get the results I want.

Forum member Scoti has a simple set up on the rear of his truck. He has bags with seperate fill lines and schrader valves to fill them. He uses it for a tow rig, parts hauler, etc. His set up has served him well for several years.

Ive used those same bags for years and they work great,but I had to modify the top spring mount because the airline exits out the top of the bag.Air-lift makes them and Jeg's sells them for about 80 bucks or so.They fit inside the coil and keep the springs from compressing so much.You can air them up and haul a ton,or lower the pressure and have a comfortable ride..Best bang for the buck I have ever installed in my truck.Good luck.

I just looked at Air Lifts application guide and they show no direct fitment for the Air Lift 1000 kits. However you could just do a regular rear air setup and use manual paddle valves in the cab to control like a load control setup, or use schraeders for real cheap kit. I have sold several like this for these reasons.

That's actually what I was talking about. Although you can probably find a helper bag that might work, I don't suggest it.

Not that it won't work, but I have found that the stiffness of the bag inside the spring prevents the vehicle from taking full advantage of the lowered spring. You might loose an inch or more of drop.

I was thinking about it, and I could use a leveling valve like on 18 wheelers. They are cheap and easliy modded to fit anything.

It sucks man. I'm trying to finish the build on my chopper and now I go get this truck. Lol

So much to do with so little money and time. Don't even know where to start. I'd like to get the outside looking sweet but that's the expensive part and I will need this truck to drive on rainy days. Im to the point where I know I will need at least one cab support, new floorpan, new firewall, and new rockers.

The problem is trying to figure out how to do all the work on the weekends and still have the truck ready to roll incase I can't ride the bike.

It's not to bad of a truck, only rust that I'm concerned about is behind the dash to the left. Not sure what the panel is called. It above the kick panel
