The White Truck has a stock 454 in it with a TH400 and a 3.07 rear. I don't drive it every day but I drive it a lot. I drove it to last years Midwest Board meet in Auburn, Nebraska in May and the Truck Nats in Riverside, Missouri in Sept. and averaged 12 mpg on both trips.... It drives down the road great and is easy to handle. The wife even likes to drive it...

I don't have a tach so I can't help you there...

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

I drove a 454+.60 (468) with a 3000 stalled TH350 and 4:10 gears daily for about 7 months. Never bothered checking the mileage. I'm currently building a 396+.30 (402) with a 3000 stalled TH400 and 3:73 gears. When completed it will be my daily. Part of owning a BBC is not worrying about mileage.

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

Spray Bomb,
If you are worried about mileage don't drive any of these trucks. None of them get good mileage. The best you would ever do is a six cylinder with a three, four, or five speed. You don't drive these thinking about mpg. You drive them because you love the look, the feel, and the fact that it is a tank that will protect you in a wreck. My two cents.

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

mat, both of mine get 10 - 12 normally, although, the longhorn is starting to run kinda crappy, and MPG has gone down hill FAST.
RPMs will be the same as a small block... 2500-ish @ 60 with 3.07 gears.... 2800-ish @ 60 with 3.73, 3200-ish @ 60 with 4.10's... it's all the same regardless of the engine pushing it

Andy,, What do you think about the 350th vrs the 400th as for any gas mileage difference? None that one would notice or a lot ? papa

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

Well Andy I understand that, Im just trying to get a feel for what people have & how they like it

If I ever get around to getting one, it will most likely be a later roller block with fuel injection & a 4L80E
that with 3:42 or 3:08 gears will keep the RPM around 2k at highway speeds & help with MPG

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

I've got a 454 that I am about to list for sale....it's a 19k mile '81 out of a motor home that ran before they pulled it and sold it to me. It's basically a long block w/o accessories, brackets, manifold, carb, exhaust or carb. I also have the original TH400 that went behind it. Let me know if you are interested....I've got a real decent price in mind.

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

Mine has the original 402 with a performer/holley 600/headers/th-400/3:07 gears. It averages 8-10 city and 13-14 highway. I have parked my Mustang and now driving her everyday with the 1.50 gas here in Texas.

I love the power and and the deep rumble from the exhaust.

Put a big-block in it....

Re: Oh NO !!! Big Block Fever !!!

i highly doubt it'd be noticeable in MPG, nor seat of the pants dyno. On the strip there may be a good enough advantage... or if you were driving it 100,000 miles a year, but I doubt it'd be more than .5 MPG... there's other places to look for MPG.
