Looking for this heavy bumper?

I am building this second truck, and for some reason I am intrested in using this bumper pictured below.

Dose anyone have one of these they don't want? I hate the aftermarket step bumpers offered.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

I like the step bumpers from this era. They are 4" tall and dropped 4" to aid entry into bed.From`73 on,they went to 8" with the top up against the tailgate which leaves a tiny corner of the bumper for a step. The narrow looks better and it`s just what belongs on these trucks. That one is aftermarket and will be tough to find the same one.It would be easy to make.I like the GM step bumpers offered in these years. They are also twice as strong as the 73-up style.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

I may have one - but - it is from a 67 Texas Truck so it is stamped Friendly Chevrolet - Dallas Texas.

It is on the truck shell in my yard. I can get pix when I get home...if you would like.

Since the weather has turned - not sure how easy it will be to get the bumper off while it is soggy out though...it is likely rusted on there - since the front was as well (had to use a cut off wheel to get the front bumper bolts out).

**Added an old shot of the truck before I yanked the engine/trans from it so you could see the bumper**

Have anything to trade?

What are you looking for? I have a few parts for these trucks.

I will most likely need the brackets as well.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

I believe the brackets are welded to the bumper on these aftermarket bumpers. Every one I have seen has been.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

they are dealer added bumpers. Usually have dealers name stamped into it. THere was a thread a year ago or so about them, and it seems they were mostly a southern/south eastern thing. They are very common in my area.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

Here is the one I have on my truck, I always thought it was OEM, but now I am not sure? Mine doesn't have any dealer name stamped on it. Unfortunately I need to keep mine until I can afford chrome for the front and rear bumpers.

That`s the`72-only factory Step Bumper. It`s the first stamped steel and the only stamped 4" bumper. The factory step bumpers from the prior years looks simular but is made frame c-channel and way stronger.GM didn`t make these bumpers but did offer the option. The factory ones are all the same.Anything else is aftermarket. The dealer I.D on the bumper was a regional thing.

I guess it has held up pretty well for the last 36 years, hopefully it will last another 36 since I only pull a Class 1 with it. I guess I should keep it so if I ever sell the truck on ebay I can tout the "rare" stamped bumper

I have that EXACT same bumper here in NH (by way of Phoenix I guess). Can you take pics of how it bolts on? I think I have an idea but pics would help me greatly.

Thanks

I'll snap some photos of the mounting brackets later today and post them. It is not on the truck now.replaced with a sport bumper....but it is really simple and straight forward how it attaches..S

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

They're quite common here too. The ones areound here are usually bolted on, no welding. The brackets are cut from 1/2" steel plate.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

Here is the one I took off my '68. It looks to be original as the license plate light has a factory connector and it plugged into the factory wiring harness.

It's in the for sale area.

Re: Looking for this heavy bumper?

Good Lord that thing looks heavy. I guess that is a way to get that "lowered" look without buying new coils Might make your truck a little light in the front end though

Some day I will tell you my story about the bicycle that caused $500 worth of damage to my wife's Honda Odyssey bumper (they don't make them like they used to).
