I was told that there are small letter and large letter GMC fleetside tailgates. Is that true? Can you show a picture comparison. Are the small letter ones hard to find?

The small letter are 67-68. Those are a little tougher to find. I assume someone will show a pic of the difference. It is very easy to see side by side.

Top pic shows the earlier 67/68 type small panel gate, bottom pic shows the more commonly found 69-72 type.

Ok that helps. A friend has this gate at his garage. So from the picturse I would assume it's a 67 to 68 fleetside.
Whats it worth?

That is a small panel gate, I always hate putting a $$$ number on tailgates without looking at them in person, that one does look to be in pretty good shape. Out of all the 67-72 gates, the small letter gmc gates are the hardest to find in good restorable shape. The last real nice one that I had sold for $600. a couple of years ago to a fellow that had been searching high and low for over five years. It was a beautiful original paint take off from back in the day, it was found in some shop rafters over in Brush Prairie, WA. where it had been setting since 1970 when the fellow had purchased the property.

Around this area it would probably bring anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks as is. The ding above the letters may knock down the price a bit though.

At any rate it is a heck of a lot better than any of the ones I have.
