Where Do These "G M C" Letters Go?

Are these tailgate band emblems? They are flat, roughly 2 1/2" high and 4" wide and the "M" is not contoured as would be the case for a hood emblem.

Thanx,
Bud

If the M is flat, they are. The M on the hood letters is contoured, because the M is centered on the hood. Never seen Red letters on 67-72 GMC's either

Re: Where Do These "G M C" Letters Go?

I thought so. I recently listed them on Ebay as hood letters and I realized that I had made a mistake and I contacted the winning bidder about my goof. Guess I shoulda looked a bit closer but it is what it is. I offered the guy back his money no problem but I am just wondering what the correct application is. Hell, if he still wants to use them for band letters then he is getting a super set for certain!

I feel like a boob

Re: Where Do These "G M C" Letters Go?

The may also be tailgate band letters for a later model GMC as well.

Re: Where Do These "G M C" Letters Go?

They look like the letters that go on the back door of the Vans. My dad had a '77 GMC Rally STX and if I remeber correctly that's where they were.

They should have part numbers on the back side. What are they? If they have eight digits, they are later model than our trucks.

Okay, the "G" has a #2473493. The "M", #2474394 &, obviously, the "C" is #2474395 so maybe it is a '67-'72 medium-duty grille set, yes?

**Edit** I found a website that lists those as for a 1966 medium duty truck. If that is so then these are super nice for being that old! Granted, I had them on a shelf in the shop for the past twenty-or-so years

They`re not 69-72 tailgate letters. Those are flat with no groove (painted red) in the surface.
