Whooohoo, i have a Deeee-froster & Heat!
My rad on my '72 work truck has had a slow leak in it for almost a year. Then last week the heater core went, so i picked up a new rad, heater core & thermostat today. I did a search & read the "how to" on a non a/c core replacement. Y'all are right, it was kinda a pain. Had to get the wife to help remove/replace the hood, but all in all it wasn't too bad. Had to clean out the mouse house. The dang new core was too big for the "clips", so i had to do some modding with.....yes...a hammer. Even so, i could only get one side of the clips to line up with the screw holes, but i don't think it's going anywhere. My fan knob is broke off, so i have to grab it with vise-grips but the fan does work. Had to duct tape up one side of the defroster hose, but having a working de-froster in winter is huge.
Anyway, it started raining "again" right after i finished & picked up the tools, so i am a happy camper. Hope everyone has a great Christmas! Next, the shop gets cleaned out & the '68 goes in for a tear down. Hopefully when spring comes it will be done! RD |

Exact reason why I didnt replace my heater core last winter. I should have done it...but was lazy.

I guess I'm next on that defroster/heater thing - mine never has worked. I have parts coming, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Did you drop your inner fender?

Yeah, i dropped it. Air power makes it easier. I tried at first to just undo 80% & push it down enough to get at 'em, but it really neeeds to come completly down. Mark the hood hinges in a few places & don't be like me & hear "ching" as a shim falls out that i couldn't find. Oh, & try & tell your wife/girlfriend to lift up the hood high enough to clear the fender(scratch). Thank heavens it's just a work truck
To be honest, a couple of weeks ago, driving into the rising sun looking thru a fist sized hole in the fogged up & icy windshield made me think "how much stupid-ER can i get"............"here's you SIGN!" RD |

Just fixed mine Saturday. Just needed to run a ground wire from the fan to the body. Apparently the PO removed the factory one and never fixed it.

I don't know what the whole box/blower/core is worth. I paid $34 bucks for the new heater core if that helps..........
