ls1/lq9 6 liter engne/4L65 trans swap in 67-72 gmc short bed

My 67 gmc shortbed fleetside is finially done at the body shop. Has anyone done a ls1/lq9 engine swap to a 67-72 shortbed pickup? I need info on this swap and ideas what to do about motor mounts and trans cross member mounts.

I forgot to give engine and trans specs. Its a 04 Lq9 enhanced 6 liter drive by wire truck motor. I have complete engine w/accessories and drive and trans + pcm, maf sensor, air tube and air cleaner, fuel tank and pump, exhaust pipes with sensors and throttle pedal and tak sensor. I intend to install as many stock parts as i can use with a injection wiring harness from speertech.

ECE makes a nice set of motor mounts for the swap. I have a set for sale since I bought a dropmember.

Yes a very popular swap. I am planning one in the near future. Search this forum and also try looking around over @ LS1tech.com. They have a special sections for conversions like this

Re: ls1/lq9 6 liter engne/4L65 trans swap in 67-72 gmc short bed

Here are truck pics will post engine tomorrow. I gpt this truck in 97 and it had 1987 305 engine,350 trans, rearend, 5 on 5 bolt pattern spindles with power disc brakes and power steering . I lowered it 3 and 5 and drove it til 02 and parked it til I put in the body shop in 06. My plan is to install the mostly stock lq9 and trans with factory cruise (built in puter in drive by wire engines). The lq9 is rated at 345hp and 385 torque. I an looking for a driver that gets good gas mileage with good power. I will be using a speartech inj harness and reprogrammed PCM with stock wiring harness for the truck.

Just out of curiosity, what exactley is the motor out of? That tranny wasn't from the same truck, correct? Are you going to mod the motor at all or just leave it stock? Nice looking truck by the way!

Wow other than the 67 back window I'd say I was looking at my 70 about 9 years ago

Good luck on the swap, the POL mounts are working great for me and just eyeball everythings alignment twice as your doing the swap/assembly

Re: ls1/lq9 6 liter engne/4L65 trans swap in 67-72 gmc short bed

Everything is from a 04 loaded two wheel drive Silverado. It called an enhanced 6.0 liter engine and trans. Supposedly used in high end chevy p/u and Denali and Escalades supposedly to give the heavier trucks more power? I am going to to pretty much leave it stock and go for gas mileage. My last few projects before we went drag racing (IHRA Top dragster) were big block cars that were fast but no mileage. our pro street 60 vette ran 11.30s on motor full street legal and had 17,000 street miles at 10 mpg. It ran 9.70s on 250 hp of nitrous. Heres a couple of pics. Oh by the way wife drove I wrenched!

Re: ls1/lq9 6 liter engne/4L65 trans swap in 67-72 gmc short bed

that 6.0 is a stout motor, FYI, you can mod those motors and still get very good gas mileage, i have a 6.0 in my ext. cab and runs 12.3's in the quarter. it gets 14mpg city/19mpg highway, and have 4.11's, the 14mpg city comes from having a 4000 converter! dont be afraid to mod these new LS motors they are built tough and wont sacrafice drivabiltiy...

for harnesses look into wait4meperformance.com... best deal around...

and nelsonperformance in San Antonio TX, he does awesome jobs on harnesses as well..

Re: ls1/lq9 6 liter engne/4L65 trans swap in 67-72 gmc short bed

thanks I am going to do a few things to it including a 31 spline 9 inch rearend I have several ring and pinions for it 3.40, 3.73, 3.89, 4.11. I am still up in the air about engine mods I understand that the steel block 6liter has a lot of potential and strength for performance upgrades. I am still a big fan of nitrous and have a lot of left over N.O.S stuff left over from racing. Soo who knows
