Converted a '66

from coil springs to leaf springs?

What are you trying to accomplish? It can be done, but is it worth it?

I would like to convert the coil suspension on my 1966 Chevy Suburban (Carryall) to leaf springs. I was just wondering how to do that.

You will need to get ahold of spring hangers, shackle hangers, shackles and leaf spring pads to weld on to youre axle housing.

I don't know if anyone makes the front spring hangers ( I'm sure someone makes them).
If you are planning on a lift I would go with the shackle flip kit by either DIY or ORD which gives you 4" of lift .

I would assume you want to lift it?
Thats the only reason I can see wanting to change it out. Which is why N2TRUX was asking.

Obviously, there's a fair amount of work involved in the swap. Is there any particular reason for wanting to go through the trouble of swapping from one to the other?

In that case.... it's a simple swap of bolt-in parts after removing the 50 or so factory rivets.

Well its only 2wd so I think I would go for a drop before a lift. Anybody know of any drop kits?

There is alot of options but I would not suggest going with leaf springs if you are going to lower it.

There is alot of variables if you want to drop it. Like how low you want to go for starters.

I would suggest doing some searching here in the "suspension forum" because there is alot of info here.

If you are trying to lower it, check with the forum vendors. There are several that offer lowered coil springs. You can also put a set of air bags in place of the coils and have an adjustable suspension.
