17" Rims...will they fit ??!
Hi everybody,
long time no hear - I hope you had a merry christmas I found a set of Billet Specialties wheels, which I would like to buy for my 1984 longbed project. They are 9,5 x 17" BS 3,5" and 11 x 17" BS 4,5". Now, do you think the backspacing of those is okay for my lowered(5/7) longbed ? And what tires would YOU use ?? Thank you all, I appreciate your help Rob |

The backspace would be way off. As much as you are lowered i think you would want around 5 1/2 -5 3/4" on the front and 6" or more in back. I have ran 10" wheels out back on a few dropped square bodys but with an 11" it would be super tight!

Re: 17" Rims...will they fit ??!
if you had a 4x4 you could run as wide of a tire as you wanted!

Re: 17" Rims...will they fit ??!
I,m pretty sure that a 10" rim with 4.5 backspacing runs right out even with the fender lip so 11 will stick out that much more, depends on what you looking for i guess

Re: 17" Rims...will they fit ??!
I think you are wanting someone to tell you this is going to work. From the responses you have had so far your not going to get that. The advice you can obtain from this is to pass on this deal and get something that will better fit your needs.

Re: 17" Rims...will they fit ??!
you`re right - i liked those rims too much - well as N2TRUX already said - I should pass on them and I will do so...
But please allow me one more question about those 17 inchers : I know somebody has asked this before in here, but I can`t find it any more... What is the maximum in wheels size( width) and backspacing for a 17" rim, that would fit under our square bodies ???? That would help a lot thanks from cold germany !!! Rob |

Re: 17" Rims...will they fit ??!
Rob- Are you asking about front or rear? Are you set on running 17's? Check the price of tires over there.
I may be wrong, but aren't 18's a more comon tire size in Germany? You only buy wheels once, but tires need to be replaced. Factor in the tire cost before you decide on wheel size...

Re: 17" Rims...will they fit ??!
In germany you`ll find smaller tires like 13" to 17"(max.) - bigger rims/tires are not so popular in old germany because of the extremely high prices...
on newer cars you`ll see bigger rims, on older cars the smaller ones - problem is, there are not so much new cars in germany as in the USA....believe it or not But yes - I like those 17" wheels - I think it`s a good compromise between 15" (which I like very much) and the big 20" (which are very cost intensive). I will try to post a pic of a truck, which had a nice set installed, soon. Last edited by Rob73-87; 12-28-2008 at 04:33 PM. |
