straight six performance

i have a GMC 270 straight six at home and im having trouble keeping up with my friends with v8's, i need more power, i've looked all over the internet for performance parts and i've found nothing, a lot of people have told me to just throw in a small block, but in all truth i like the straight six better because u don't see a lot of them and they get decent gas mileage, anyway, THANKS!!

Clifford performance makes exhaust and intake systems for it. Crower and Howard make cams for it. Egg machine makes pistons.

Go over to www.webrodder.com on their forum and tell them what you want to do and you'll get plenty of leads on howto and where to get parts. If its been done to a chevy 6 someone their can tell you how. They also have a great set of articles on building a straight 6 stroker motor. I've seen 292's run in the 10's so its possible to get a nice streetable 13 second butt kicker.

In the late 60's in Eugene Geralds Transmission ran an injected 292 based front engine rail heads up against injected SB Chevys and won. Straight sixes are better balanced and can make a lot of torque. I don't know if the 270 blocks are as beefy as the 292 but they can be made to move.
