Standard/Sport Bumper Question
I did a search, but couldn't find any clear answer. I'm looking for 73-80. What is a standard bumper? Is it the same as a sport bumper? Anybody have any pics? Are the brackets the same between the two, if they are different bumpers? Thanks

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
Yeah, I have a sport bumper on my truck. I would like to know if a sport bumper and a standard bumper is the same bumper, and if not what does a standard bumper look like. Also are the brackets the same between the two, if they are different bumpers. Oh, im talking about rear bumpers. Thanks

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
sport bumper = standard bumper. I guess sport bumper sounds cooler. Only two options on a pickup were Sport/standard or step bumper and both were available painted or chromed.

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
I was under the impression that the "standard" bumper was the step bumper...as seen on the back of my 77. I think the sport bumper (looks like a Blazer/Burb bumper) was optional and extra. I have seen very few rear sport bumpers on trucks compared to the step bumpers...but maybe it is just me.

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
The person I was talking with was saying standard and step as two different types of bumpers. I had never heard anyone refer to them as standard bumpers. I think he was refering to what we know as the sport bumper.

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
usualy a step bumper as i understand it was a dealer installed item, and sport bumper would of been installed in the factory.

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
OK, I did a little digging in my 76 data book. This info is for painted rear bumpers, all Chevrolet (not dealer) installed. V38 is a regular (sport as we are calling it) bumper, V43 is the step bumper. V38 had a MSRP of $38, V43 was $59. I don't think any bumper came "standard"...I think the buyer picked which ever one he/she wanted.

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
I bought more than a few new GM pickups. Almost all were Sierra Grande/Silverado models. None of them came with a bumper as standard equipment. I paid the $59 for the cheap step version a few times. When I ordered the 1979 I didn't order a rear bumper, had one custom built instead. When I got my 1988 2 dr regular cab V30 pickup I paid $200 for the chrome step version.

Re: Standard/Sport Bumper Question
As Jeff and a few others pointed out bumpers on these trucks were optional from GM.
