Shortened 1 ton = poor ride quality?
So I was going over my plans to shorten my crew cab 2wd with the guy doing the machine work on my motor and he said if I shortened it, that it would ride aweful and really stiff? Any truth to that? Is that why I see most shortened crew cabs changed to 1/2 ton? Anybody have experience here? thanks
Adam

NO WAY!
It won't ride any worse than a standard cab longbed. If a shorter wheelbase was terrible,... blazers would be horrible. I say cut it down.

Re: Shortened 1 ton = poor ride quality?
Thats kind of what I was thinking, I really want to keep this thing 8 lug. So why does everyone shorten their 3/4 or 1 ton crew cabs and make them 1/2 ton?

Re: Shortened 1 ton = poor ride quality?
I guess because Gm didn't make one. That's what I will eventually do to my 1-ton cew cab.
Hill's Hot Rods left theirs a 3/4-ton (or 1-ton?) for hauling purposes.

Re: Shortened 1 ton = poor ride quality?
OK, in general a longer wheel base rides better because there is a longer distance in between the wheels, which means the suspension has more recovery time.

Re: Shortened 1 ton = poor ride quality?
even if it rides a little worse...the improved turning radius is worth the trade off...lol

Re: Shortened 1 ton = poor ride quality?
shorter wheel base vehicals will have reduced ride quality, but it's all depending on shocks, springs, mounts, etc....as to haw much worse it will be. You will feel the bumps more, because the suspension doesn't have to time to recover between the to axles....

I also believe most people won't notice/care in the ride difference, especially when they pop on their rubber band tires and feel the ride quality of those things.
