Arrow Just curious...

Just curious as to whether a '68 3/4 ton with a rare 305 v-6, HEAVY leaf springs, Dana 60 rear end, and a longstep bed is pretty rare? If so, is it worth anything after an 85% or so restoration??

I had a 66 with a 305V6 years ago, and even then it was pretty rare. As for its value, it's worth whatever it's worth to you or whatever someone's willing to pay for it. The problem with a restoration is that you need a collector who's interested in paying for it. Also, you say 85%-- you don't say whether that's where you stopped, which is OK if what you want is resale value, or if the other 15% is modification, which generally hurts collector prices.

Having said that, there's not a big collector (by that I mean lots of money and don't want to do the work themselves) market for GMC and Chevy trucks in this area. Most of the collector stuff around where I live tends to be classic rods and restorations.

Not rerally rare...just not too common. The 305 was the base engine in the GMC trucks.

Long steps are unique and I havent seen a 305 v6 in my area yet. If its a 67-72 I say fix it up, doesnt matter if its rare or not its still a 67-72!

Hey Tbone,
I am in Dallas and have a 68 3/4 4x4 305V6 stepside. Dirt Dobber has one in Houston. I would like to take a lookat yours if you are ever in Dallas or Garland. I am trying to get my engine bay back to original and not sure what is missing. There is a 68 305 4x4 on ebay right now. Nice truck in Arkansas.

Well, my question is purely hypothetical, since I don't plan on ever selling it unless its life/death. By 85% I mean I am only fairly experienced since this is my first resto. and I have not been in a position to take this truck down to the ground. Thats not to say Im doing it half-ass, I try to not do anything like that. I am going to take steps to prevent any decay I can in lieu of a future ground-up resto. I have not done any alterations except replacing shot equipment, but it has all been OE spec and what was on the truck originally. With me leaving for college in a few months(ouch!! gas bills) I doubt if I will be finished even then. I don't think I'd get much if I sold it right now cosidering most of it is pulled off the truck. But thanks for ya'll's input. Oh and I might be going to college in the Dallas area soon, so maybe I could meet ya...
