Hey Guys,

I decided to put a Mercedes diesel (the OM617 3 liter inline 5 cylinder turbo) in my 1967 Chevy C10.

As most of the remaining issues will be mercedes-specific, I've started a thread over on the mercedes forum:

Wow thats cool man. My shop teacher geeks over old 5 cyl merc diesels, we pull them and install them in all sorts of stuff at school. We are pretty much running a Merc chop shop out behind the school lol. Keep posting stuff here as well, I want to see how it goes.

What kind of torque does one of those engines put out ?

Are the transmissions worth a darn ? Is there an easy trans swap possibility if not ?

My father-inlaw has one in a 64 mustang. i will try and get some pics. he said it will get close to 40mpg.

I had though of doing that , those benz diesel engines kick ass with the
great torque and mpg. Im glad that someone is finally doing it to one of

Hardly at all, once you start busting on your own, it's around 50 cents a gallon if you brew it up yourself last time I ran the numbers.. The in-truck tanks after installed are effort free, but cost more. Frier grease is cheap/free if you know where to go.

There is a reason why biodiesel became popular as diesel prices rose. Not only this, but it's more refined than regular diesel, and is less harmful to the motor over time, and has insanely better emissions as it burns more efficiently, smelling like french fries over burnt diesel.

The brew we make is about 38 cents a gallon. 0 waste, compared to bio which has lye and bunch of other waste, we waste nothing.

Vege oil did not become illegal. Any refining you do will create waste of sorts, even if it's invisible (as gas). Biodiesel is not by any means expensive, and has many sources. If you really do make what you claim, it is also biodiesel, just from another source.

I'd tell you guys, but if too many people do it than it'll become illegal or taxable. Just like running straight veggie oil did.

Some old fogey I know runs a mix of that shi* in his old dodge cummins water truck, and it runs really well actually. I thought I heard you say something like that in another thread, but I was mixing people up

yeah i know a guy who was running his dodge cummins with that and it did HORRIBLE things to the motor
