Front Fender Fitment help on a 69
anyone ever have a problem with fitment of an aftermarket/reproduction fender? im trying to think of a good way to get this to fit besides trimming the rocker, which i may end up doing , heres a pic, you can see the gap between the fender and the door, and you can see that the rocker sticks out past the door.... yet the rocker is lined up PERFECTLY with the backside, so i dont get it, probably just a bad repoduction rocker??? either way, you can see how the fender overlaps
my only ideas are to either grind the end of the rocker, or use a hammer and tap tap tap away until i get it even with the door. that or i was going to try to widen the alignment holes on top at the windshield area, so i can try to slide the fender forward more, but not sure how well that will work either. any ideas are welcome! thanks guys. and heres one more just because it looks so good with a good fender on it finally!

Kracin, I'm working on my cab right now. Your pic is a little close and fuzzy. But, it looks like the door and fender are ok, and the rocker is what is off. This is just a guess, a better pic would help. I don't know if you put on the outter rocker or not or what all you have replaced, but if you have replaced part of your cab floor and inner rocker it is very easy to get it off 1/4" or so. BELIEVE ME!!!!!
I just installed a drivers side floor pan, and somehow I'm a lil over 1/8" off. I can tell because the where it bolts to the cab support I have a gap. Even though its perfect at the rear of the cab, if I don't fix it, my rocker is gonna be off. I could be way off, but thats all I can get from the pic. |

Nice looking truck also. What ever you do don't get discouraged. Looks like you've got a pretty good start.

Check out some of Rokcrln's threads and see how he handles gaps. Aloha

Re: Front Fender Fitment help on a 69
I forget which car or truck resto TV-show I saw this on, but it was a build using a lot of repro-panels.
They said right at the start of it: "You have to understand that NONE OF THIS STUFF FITS EXACTLY RIGHT compared to original metal." And so they started out by enlarging all the bolt holes before they ever tried to hang the panels, to give them a little slop for extra adjustability. They also said to plan on maybe having to cut & modify some of the panels a little bit, to ever get them to fit right............... |

We need a picture from the side to see what is happening. Your pictures are fuzzy and do not show enough. WES

Re: Front Fender Fitment help on a 69
i can get another picture tonight, but basically the door and fender line up fine, and the rocker sits about 1/8th of an inch under the fender, and the rocker sits that much farther out than the door on that side, but lines up fine with the door on the backside, which is where i lined it up at... more pics when i get off work today, still on the ship right now
thanks for the tips, and yes my plan when i got there was to enlarge as many holes as i could so i could adjust it much much more than it allows, its still going to bolt to the clips, but will allow more room to wiggle ya know.

Re: Front Fender Fitment help on a 69
So basically your saying that your rocker is 1/8" longer than your door? I wouldn't make to many mods to the fender because even if you get the fender to move forward your gaps aren't gonna look good. You'll have a bigger gap between your door and fender and then a skinny gap between your rocker and fender. Looks like the culprit is the rocker.

Re: Front Fender Fitment help on a 69
No aftermarket panels fit right without shims, hole mods, hammers, welders, etc... It does not matter where you baught it, who made it,...they all come from China or Tiawan. I deal with it everyday! I had to replace rear 1/4's on a '67 Chevelle today. Not an easy job. I had to cut up a brand new 1/4 and weld it back together to get it to fit.
