I need a little help on the fuel tank

I have gotten quite a bit done on my build over the holidays, but have run into a few sticking points. All with regard to the LMC fuel tank kit. I agree I should have used the Fuel Cell Guy, but this is what I had, so I went with it.

First off, shouldn't the tank be isolated from the frame of the truck when installed? Mine is hard aginst the frame all the way around it.

The second question is which direction did those of you who used this tank run the straps? Front to back, or side to side? It appears to be stamped for them to go side to side, but with no directions, who knows?

The third question is the amount of the tank above the frame rails. I know I need to clearance the crossmember, but dose the picture I attached of it look right? It seems high. Not sure, once again, no instructions. Got to love LMC.

I split an old garden hose and slip it over the lower frame rail as a rub/buffer barrier.

I used a gas tank from an '80s blazer in my truck so keep that in mind...

The gas tank "flange" or lip that runs around the equator of the fuel tank is hard mounted against the frame rail on my install. I attached my straps front to back, but put some roofing tar paper between the straps and the fuel tank.

I had to completely remove two under-bed crossmembers in order for my tank to fit and that is with the one-inch square pipe that I installed under my frame rails to drop the tank a little.

I cut up a pneumatically challenged bicycle inner tube to use as an insulator for the tank to frame/straps.

I can't tell , but if this is a SWB, it looks like it should sit further back in the frame. Also, I have never seen one with the filler neck on the passenger side. I will look at mine tonight (71 SWB) and get back with you.

You are correct. It appears to be spun 180. For a truck, I don't think there's any advantage either way. You'll still have to clearance the cross sill on the bed.

I agree with you guys, it is spun 180 from most of the builds. The reason I did that is because the pick-up tube is in the rear of the tank this way. I was in my prostreet mind frame and figured I wanted the pickup to be where the fuel would be on acceleration, in the back. The pick-up tube on this tank is positioned crosscar rather than into the center of the tank. So, I will have an oddball truck with a passenger fuel fill door. Unique, I guess. Or if I ever sold it, I could say it has a rare passenger side fuel fill. LOL......One of none produced....
