Wood Floor Finishing Help
I know I have seen several posts on here before about what is the best stuff to use when finishing wood floors. But tonight I can't find any of them. So sorry for starting this again, but what has everyone used??

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
My dad and I used Waterlox products for boats on his GMC. I like the fact that there is no clear to peel off, and it can be touched up if it gets scratched. Sorry, no pics of the bed and the truck is about 150 miles from me now at my dad's.

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
I used manowar spar varnish. Also used on boats, and has lots of UV protection, it can not be sprayed though. If I were to do another I might use automotive clear. It would be much easier than brushing on 4 coats on both sides of the boards.

I am using Bristol Finishes Amber Urethane. If I had not already purchased it, I would most likely go with automotive clear also.

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
You need to decide what you will use the truck for and whether it's to be parked inside.UV is one of the worst things on a finish.Either way make sure you do the end and edge grain of the wood.

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
Mar-K has some good test info on their website. We use a good quality Urethane sanding between coats and then coat with automotive clear. We usually use a mat finish unless the customer wants it glossy.

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
Thanks all...Mar-K states that MinWax was one of the best they tested. This will not be parked outside much. So I think I might use that with a light oak stain. Or I might go with a natural stain. I'm just not sure yet.

The picture above has no stain at all for reference.

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
Marine spar varnish, with a light sanding in between coats with 220 sandpaper. I used white oak which has good durability to weather.

Re: Wood Floor Finishing Help
I highly recommend Bruce Horkey....he has a kit for both short and long beds which includes sand paper, 3m pads, stain choice, varnish, brushes, tack cloth and directions. Amazing products!
He uses Spar Varnish as well http://www.horkeyswoodandparts.com/ |
