How to get bed apart?
Well I am taking my bed apart to bedline it and paint it and install new floor/front panel. The bolts with the round tops, should I just grind ALL of them off? They all just turn in place. Also, does anyone know of a Stainless Steel bed bolt kit? Thanks for all help.

Re: How to get bed apart?
I cut mine from the bottom between the washer and the nut so as not to damage the bed floor. There are a couple you will need a small cutting wheel for. I used my dremel cutter for those. Don't forget there are a couple of spot welds on the top side of the bed floor to the rear pillars.

Re: How to get bed apart?
Tighten them till they break from underneath. If they are spinning already, you can cut a slot for a screwdriver, or weld a nut on top...

Not my first rodeo... Living in the land of rust, you find lots of methods to take things apart. A sawzall is a wonderful thing also.

Re: How to get bed apart?
Yeah, but then I have to find out how many I need for each size. Which could take a while. Plus they might cost more at a hardware store.

I also used a cutoff wheel to cut my bolts out of my stepside. Patience and a steady hand and you shouldn't damage the angle strips or bed floor. I bought stainless carraige bolts for mine from a local place. If you're just going to spray over the bolts with bedliner, this may be your cheapest option?

Re: How to get bed apart?
I drilled mine out from the top, And if you want I have a set of S.S. bolts that I bought from Chevy Duty that I can measure and give you the thread size on, I paid almost 20.00 bucks for them and felt kind of stupid when I figures out the were just carriage bolts, washers and nuts!!

Re: How to get bed apart?
I have taken a few apart and have also used an impact wrench to break them off from underneath... You can usually get over 3/4 of them this way and, as far as the rest, I had better luck drilling them out. Drill a 1/8" pilot hole then use a larger bit to drill through the head. I found a cut-off wheel especially hard to get in the corners without doing some damage.

I just had a person on one side with locking pliers and me on the other with a socket. Worked out great.

Re: How to get bed apart?
In my city, there are several specialty places that sell just fasteners. Everything from grade 8 bolts to nails and staples. You may need to know someone who has a business to buy wholesale, but most of these places have a wide variety of bolts and nuts with several grades and finishes, including stainless. They are very much cheaper than the hardware stores and box hardware places. The local one that I use will sell me a single bolt if I need one for a few cents or even give it to me because I'm a long time customer. It really pays to find these places and helps support your local economy as well.
