Static
I don't know if this has been disscussed but it's something I have lived with since owning my truck.
Static electricity. Anytime I touch the truck it shocks me. Some days are worse than others but it's there everyday. This morning when I put the key into the ignition it sparked and I could feel it. I have all the grounds and then some with no operating problems, it just has always been a bunch of static. What can I try to solve this and get it where it want shock me? I do have cloth seats.

Re: Static
If it's shocking you while driving I would suggest trying "Static Guard".
It's a spray for laundry stuff.Just spray the seats and doorpanels ,maybe the carpet. If it's shocking you when you reach to open the door then spray your clothes. Should be available in the laundry aisle at your grocery or wall world.

Re: Static
The only time I have noticed it was if I reach to open the door or as stated putting the key in. It will get you when you walk up to it without being near the truck when you reach for it. Never had a problem while driving it.

Re: Static
The fabric of the GM seats I think promotes it. I have the had the same issue on all my GM trucks (and some cars) that had fabric seats. For some reason my other vehicles that had cloth, don't seem to do it. Of course I was younger then too, so maybe if I lifted my butt off the seat instead of sliding it, it would make a diff.
Like Panel mentioned you cn try the static guard stuff used for your clothes

Re: Static
Maybe you need on of those rubber straps that hangs down from the bumper to the ground off of the rear bumper like the guys from Canada.
From what I was told, the tires spinning on the slippery roads generates static and the rubber strip disapates it. So I was told. If your trucks shocks you, its not because of the interior, got to be something else... Mick Nice looking interior though. Last edited by MickMc; 01-10-2009 at 02:45 PM. |

Re: Static
MickMc,
I haven't ever seen the rubber strapes but I have thought about a chain hanging down. thirdstreettito, Tell me more about this shuffling your feet on the carpet before you get in. How exactly do I do this if I'm not in the truck yet?

Re: Static
Funny stuff (family guy)
Need to get it figured out, especially if you ever get any gas fumes. Try a vinyl seat cover temporarily. Then maybe a rubberized floor cover. |

Re: Static
Gas tank is in bed now. But that could still be a problem.
These are the mates I have right now. I may try a set of rubber ones for everyday driving.

Re: Static
I have the same problem on my 97 Tahoe. I never noticed it until I had new tires put on and now after driving it when I grab the door to shut it after getting out I get shocked everytime. Maybe some tire designs generate static electricity when driving?

Re: Static
I had a trailblazer that zapped me pretty good every time I got out. That static cling spray paneldeland mentioned works great. I had to refresh it every six months or so but no more shock.

Re: Static
Andy, I have rubber mats in my 02, and it stills zaps me. I found for getting out that if i grab the metal part of the truck before I leave the seat to step out, no zappo. Of course I forget more than I remember, so Zappppp.

Re: Static
Well if I find a cure for this I will post it here. I guess I'll live with the zapping for now. I'm going to try the spray and see what happens.
