Ignition Switch Removal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi, I tried (till my neck gave out) to remove the igniton switch on my 68 chevy pickup. I assumed that I would just unscrew the chrome ring on the panel and my switch would fall out the back. The ring unscrewed a few revolutions and just kept spinning without releasing from the switch as if it were stripped. How do I remove the switch????

to the right bottom of the key hole there is a little pin hole. Get a paper clip and stick in the hole and turn the chrome ring until it comes off

First put key into ignition and turn to accessory. Then insert paper clip( I like to use a small allen wrench ). You should feel for a small spring loaded brass pin with the paper clip, push it in and turn key to the left a little more. If you are real lucky the ignition tumbler will pull right out. Sometimes you will have to wiggle and jiggle the key to get it out. Other times you will need a hammer and a punch. I have done it all three ways.
