Hi folks,

What are you all doing to keep the leaves and junk out of the cowl and heater air intake? Please show me your pictures.

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Show me your COWL!!

I got some screens that fit in there from LMC, they work great. I'm sure board vendors have them as well. Sorry no pics.

I plan on "shaving" mine, or buying one premade.

Latest issue of Classic Trucks Magazine has an article showing Scott's Hot Rod's doing a "shave" on a '67-72 cowl. Check it out. Or, maybe it was Sport Truck or Trucks.....don't remember for sure. I was using the "library" at Wal Mart to keep from buying it. Shame on me.....Nah!

Re: Show me your COWL!!

Definitely not going to shave it. I was thinking of some sort of mesh and was trying to see if there are some creative guys out there who have done this at home.

Re: Show me your COWL!!

Yeah,Don`t "fill" them if you need a defroster/defogger,like if you live where it might rain. The pre-made screens are pricey @ about $50 IMO.I`d just use some sort of mesh or screen. It doesn`t need to be fancy mounted behind the cowl cover.

Re: Show me your COWL!!

I'm probably going to use some metal window screening. Another thought I had was that small, 1/4 inch rabbit wire.

Somebody has to have some pics of what they have though.

Dan

OUCH that hurts to just look at that picture... But what can you say it doesnt rain much in NM and your welding looks great so you may not need that cowl vent.

Re: Show me your COWL!!

I hot glued some black window screen to the back side of the grill panel. Works very well-no more leaves or bugs in the vents!

Re: Show me your COWL!!

I used black screen door material from Lowes. Took the cowl off and used the black sticky stuff to hold it to the underside of the cowl. Works great. It's like caulking in strips.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Show me your COWL!!

Homey Depot or other hardware store sells a plastic house gutter guard that comes in a long roll. Advantages... cheap, already the right width, and is UV resistant so the sun won't make it brittle.

As for hot glue, it seems like that wouldn't hold since most consumer grade low-temp hot glue melts at 250°. In hot sun, the sheetmetal will get pretty darned hot, so you may find your screen falling off.

Re: Show me your COWL!!

I used the aluminum gutter guard from my home supply place. Lowes and Home Depot also carry it. Don't have to worry about it rusting and it's was already the right width. I'll try to find a pic but I think I posted it here before. Randy
