i have a few questions about an oil change in my truck like whats the best oil to use for an older truck like ours and i have a sbc 400. Right now i have 10w30 in there but whats the best motor oil company in your opinion and also i have dual oil filters on attached to the engine and the other one is a remote filter what size filter would i need to put in both of them thanks for the help by the way this forum is the fu$#en awesome lol

Poke, this is my opinion and it's worth what it costs. About 2 years ago I changed over to Mobile 1 20\50 for year round use. Truck had about 400,000 miles on it then. I put a 5qt pan on it and use the 2 qt filters so an oil change is 7 qts now. I run about 10,000 miles between changes and it uses 2 qts between changes. I work my truck. I pull a 7000# trailer all over and use it like a skidder pulling firewood. It doesn't work as hard as before restoration, but it works. I've never had any mechanical issues with this oil. I guess thats why Farrarie won't guarantee thier engines unless you use Mobile 1. If it's good enough for thier engines in $250,000 cars, it's good enough for my truck. jim

i use quaker state 10W30 in my truck and 5w30 in my newer stuff and i never have problems

15W-40 for diesel engines is my oil of choice. I use Valvoline Premium Blue. I feel it's about as close to race oil for a gas motor as you can get without the high prices. This stuff usually goes for ~$12 a gallon and is available just about anywhere.

If you do not know the cleanliness of the inside of your motor, DO NOT switch to it, as it has lots of detergents in it that will break any sludge lose, which could potential clog the oil pickup. Only use this oil if you've seen the inside of the motor and know it's not gunked or sludged up.

i use 10w40 castrol in my 75. in fact, everything i own is on castrol, the 75, the wife's 300c, my '05 chevy and the lawn mowers. Castrol has a high mileage oil also. i would definately go to 40 weight.

oil is oil. i use 5w30 high mileage from valvoline... Umm why do you have 2 oil filters???

All my engines start out with valvoline and after a couple a hundred thousand miles, they still run good and the insides are clean. When I rebuild my current engine, after about 10k or so I'll be switching to one of the synthetics, probably mobil 1.

I always used Valvoline in my old engine with AC Delco long filters. That combo seemed to be the best combo for me. It doesn't break the bank either.

I ran valvoline durablend (synthetic blend) in my '86 for a few years then switched to Valvoline fully synthetic, then gave royal purple a try. For my money, i'd go back to durablend or valvoline fully synthetic. I did not have any problems with royal purple, im just not convinced it's worth $8/quart.
That and a good PF35L, high effiency ac delco filter or a K&N performance gold oil filter.

I use Castrol, but if you change your oil regularly, I think any oil would be fine. I had a 400 that had 200k+ on it. I drove back and forth from Bing to Ottawa, put 60k on the motor before I left. The motor was a sludgepit on the inside. Changed the oil roughly 3k, and when I tore the engine apart, it was virtually spotless. I think any oil is fine, I kinda think they are all the same just different color bottle. Never used synthetic and dont' plan to.

205K on my DD 83 305, Run 10/30 Pennz High Mileage with a FRAM 2 qt filter and have been running this since day 1

, I do 3K/3mo oil changes, Synthetics aren't in the picture until I have to replace the engine

Use any oil you wish,all oils today are about the same, it's mainly Brand loyalty, use one oil and stick with it

the previous owner has used Valvoline in my engine ever since he rebuilt it back in 99....i know this cuz the guy took notes on every bit of maintenance he did

Almost 2 years of work, but it was really worth the effort. Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
