high beam problem

Back when iw as home around christmas time i tackled a project that was cleaning out the rats nest of wiring/bad wiring job that was done in the past.

wires were just twisted together and taped under the dash. i fixed some with connectors, and now since then my high beams are inoperable. there are 3 wires, tan yellow, and green. I can get the high beams to work, but then the low beams won't work at all.

anybody have a similar problem? thanks in advance!

Re: high beam problem

Pat, you don't say where the high beam switch is but that shouldn't matter, the wires are the same. First disconnect the high beam switch. Next turn the headlights on and with a test light find the hot wire and attach a jumper to it. Next, probe the other wires and see if you have high and low beams. If you do the dimmer switch is bad. If you don't, you have an open circut in the wire that feeds the circut with no response and you'll have to trace that wire to the open. Jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.

thanks! the switch is on the column, andf it pulls the cable to the white unit lower down on the column.

If I switched the power wires around, I got high beams(indicator on speedo too) and no low beams. i switched it back and got lowbeams only and when you flip on the highbeams the lowbeams go off and no indicator on the dash
