Hey Kevin, are you wanting a thread that explains how to retrofit it under the bed? Or a link to a gas tank kit that can go under the bed?

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

Kevin, the 60-72 frames are the same. Cheapest thing to use is a full size blazer tank. Get one from one of the guys who haul junk cars to the crusher. Most crushers require the gas tanks to be removed. I put a ad in Craigslist a while back and had two offers the next day for $20. Those guys just want to get rid of them.

I am building a 66 short step and have a buddy with a frame for a 69 short step, will this work with my 66 body. One of the rear frame rails is twisted a bit on mine and he was in the middle of building his truck got the frame done and then someone stole the body for his truck after he stripped it.

I mistakenly put 60-72, what I meant to put was 63-72 are all the same. I can't remember where I found this info but I'm 99.9% sure the 63-72 frames are all identical. Of course, the easiest thing would be to take measurements. But, I'm confident you'll find that they're the same.

I just put a Summit fuel cell in the frame rails of my truck. Is that what you're looking for?

Re: 1966 gas tank retro fit under bed

Kevin I used a tank from a 77-82 1/2 ton Chevy Van. Welded a 3X4 piece of angle the back of the frame rails and had to trim the forward crossmember just slightly see pic. I scrounged mine from the bone yard with straps and filler neck but, they are available new.

I also had to modify the cross sill above the tank and hole saw through the frame rail for the fill hose as seen in the pic.

Re: 1966 gas tank retro fit under bed

I think I paid around $200 for it. I bought it for another project that went bad, so I figured I'd use it. I just put it in the other day. I have some pix I'll try to post.

I know nothing about fuel cells but am very curious about them. What's the magic in getting them to work? What all needs to be hooked up?

Re: 1966 gas tank retro fit under bed

It depends on which cell you have. I have one that just has a feed line at the bottom and a vent at the top. The new one, which is in the photo's, has two feed lines, a rollover vent and a return line for fuel injection or if you run a bypass type fuel regulator. One of the main things to remember is to make sure that the fuel pump is lower than the outlet on the cell. The pump should be gravity fed. As you can see in my photo, I'm going to have to put a bracket next to the cell to hang my electric pump from. If I put it up on the frame it wouldn't work properly.

If you get the 67-72 blazer tank kit you can order it with a 0-30 ohm sender or the 0-90. It fits in the frame rails so no trimming or welding and it is 20 gals. Here are some pictures of it in my frame. http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...t=000_0346.jpg
