Front hub help! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

We are taking apart the front hubs on my 84 K10, it has a 10 bolt front. We got the outer collar with the spring and the inner collar with the spring off. Now there is a piece behind the inner collar that held it on with 1 phillips head. What next? Is there a snap ring or something? All help appreciated!

Pictures of a better discription of exactly what kind of hubs you are working on will help a lot. I don't recall a phillips head screw in any kind of hub? but it could be the work of a PO

Was it the snap ring on the axle stub?The grease kinda hides it.

A good set of snap ring pliers should take care of it.

How do I replace the drivers side front studs on my 84 K10, it has a 10 bolt front diff.

Lay disc flat on wooden surface.

Hit studs with large hammer! They are pressed in.

If you want to re-use the studs....thread on a lug nut and hit the lug nut to preserve the threads.

I would suggesst replacing the studs. They are cheap!

No, I mean how do I get the hub casing(?) off? It is separate from the disc.

Once you drive the studs out, the hub should seperate from the disc.

The stud kinda holds them together.

Its not like a Toyota or Ford.

I'll see if I can get some pics.

My dad hit the studs loose before we even got anything apart.

The disc and the piece the studs are packed into are separated. Will the piece the studs are packed into come off with out me having to get the snap ring out and all the inner stuff?

No, how do I get the piece the studs are packed in off. The disc is a separate piece from what I can tell.

The hub isn`t always seperate from the disc.The unit is known as a rotor or disc.The studs are "pressed" not packed.With owning a 4wd you`ll get to where taking that hub apart is like putting a battery in.

I say packed, I say pressed, it all depends on how I feel...

It's as hard as putting a battery in? GAWD! I'll never get it apart!
