Antifreeze on my floorboard.

Okay, I just pulled the original 350 I blew ad put in a brand new crate. I never noticed this before this happened, but now I have antifreeze leaking on my passenger floor from inside. It seems to have two leaks, one from the firewall and one from a missing screw on the plastic. I noticed once before (about this time last year) that it there was smoke coming out of my vents when i turned on the heater. I drove home and by the time I was home, it was fine and never had the trouble again. The truck sat for a month and a half before I got the motor in and now it's doing it very regularly even when the heat isn't on. There is a very nasty oily film popping up on everything after it happens. I didn't touch the heater core or anything during the swap. The motor side of the firewall is fine too, with no leaks. I'm thinking this is either a bad heater core or something is leaking on the interior. Is there any possibility this could be the A/C? I'm doubting that. Any ideas guys? I can get pictures any time.

Re: Antifreeze on my floorboard.

Did you smell sweetness when the smoke was coming through the vents?

Perhaps a change in fluid level exposed a weak point in the heater core.

Yeah it's definitely not just random smoke. It's antifreeze for sure.

The same thing happened to mine. A small crack on the heater core caused when moving the in lines out of the way during the engine work. Small price to repair, however it is a pain in the a** to remove.

Re: Antifreeze on my floorboard.

I agree that it's the heater core. I have done my non-AC truck, but never an AC truck. Mine was pretty easy to do.

Re: Antifreeze on my floorboard.

My truck is a factory A/c truck, so looks like it'll be pretty difficult. Oh well, it'll be a small price to pay. I'm sick of cleaning my windshield every 5 miles at night because I can't see the road when headlights meet me. I guess a $25 fix and a case of beer should do the trick. Thanks for the input guys. I'll let you know how it goes in the next few days.

I'm not a real big proponent of it, but you may want to try a tube of "AlumaSeal" 1st.

Its your heater core. You might as well break down and replace it. You can do it.

Re: Antifreeze on my floorboard.

Literally just fixed mine. Non A/C truck so it wasn't too bad but basically you have to pull the wheel, and unbolt the inner fender (pray the bolts aren't rusted to the nuts lol) and then it's pretty straight forward... The only thing is the cable on the inside of the box and getting the thing airtight again...
