I found a truck I might buy, but want to check to see if the VIN matches up with the options on the truck.

anyone have any links?

It's not in the VIN, what you need is the SPID.(Service Parts IDentification) That is the option sticker on the inside of the glovebox lid. It has the VIN at the top, so you can be sure it matches. Just be aware that SPID labels can be reproduced, so if someone is looking for big bucks from a highly optioned truck...check it carefully.

Is that listed anywhere else on the truck? I did notice that the glovebox sticker was missing.

If it hasn't been removed, usually the factory build sheet is on the underside of the seat or the back, tucked into the seat springs. It is an 8-1/2 X 11" piece of paper with all of the build option information.

then there is absolutly no way to tell what if came with. You can't even tell is it was a step side or a fleet side bed without the SPID or build sheet.

So, you have an opportunity to have your SPID custom-made to your specs with whatever you want it to have!

Seems I have read where people would obtain a Resto Packet from GM for their Chevy truck that showed what it had when newly produced. I can't verify that this statement is correct, so someone who knows can say yea/nay.

The restoration pack is not VIN specific, it gives you the available options for whatever year requested. They will ask you for your VIN when you order, I suppose for accounting purposes. In other words if 5 guys call today for a 72 c10 restoration pack they will have to give their individual VINS (or a made up one), but they will all receive the exact same packet in the mail.

unless you are in canada with a truck built in canada... they get specific info on the truck in question. Specific info like options ordered, dealer sold at, and cost. i *THINK* that's it.
They also pay 50 bucks, where ours is free.
