Backspacing for a 4x4?
I was looking around and using the search but couldn't come up with an answer.
What is the maximum backspacing for a wheel on a '71 4x4? I am going to be lifting my Blazer and want to run 37's and 17x8-10 rims. Some of the wheels I like have 4.5" or even 5" of backspacing (seems like most 17s do) and I was wondering if anyone here had experience with wheels like this. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Backspacing for a 4x4?
Not positive about the 'maximum' but the norm is 4"s.
I've read here somewhere that the guys running the newer style chevy truck wheels have to run spacers. I have H2's on my D60 without spacers, their a 17" wheel, what axle are you running? |

It's the stock Dana 44 in the truck. I suppose I could get the wheels and if I have fitment issues I can run some spacers.

Re: Backspacing for a 4x4?
The maximum is when it hits! hehehe just messin..probly close to 4.5" but I have never tried to max it out so I could easily be wrong.
On that D44 I would stick to 3.5-3.75 range 4" max....test fitting is your best answer

Personnally I'd feel safer without spacers if I were driving it on the roads. A wheel with 4"s of back spacing is close with a 12.5" wide tire on a 10" wheel, from there it all depends on what your runnin' for rubber. Although a 17" wheel could possibley give you a little more room with the tie rod end. |

Re: Backspacing for a 4x4?
I will have to keep my eyes open for 17s with less backspacing. Or just go with 15's in the backspacing range I need - but there is such less variety and style in that size wheel.
This truck will only be drivin on the road. |

Re: Backspacing for a 4x4?
I have my stock Dana 44 in the front with 8 lug hubs from an '86 Suburban and I have the Sub semi-float 14 in the rear. I am running 16.5 x 10 Centerlines with 4.5" b/s. No problems. Rear is wider than stock, 8 lug hubs in the front maybe slightly?
