Had an idea
When I bag my 68 I plan on using a c-notch. This should mean my pumpkin will hit the bed before my axle hits the notch, right?
How about cutting a hole in the bed for the pumpkin to fit through but use the piece of metal you cut out, weld on a hinge and put it back on the hole. That way the bed looks solid when at ride height but when slammed the pumpkin can hit that patch and just lift it up. Any thoughts on this??

Sounds like it could work to me, hadnt ever really thought about that. I would think you just need a lip or a few tabs to hold the piece at bed floor level when its not being pushed up. Also might have to put something on the axle to push it up and not catch the brakeline or axle breather on anything. Sounds cool to me....

If you choose to do this, I would put some kind of rubber insulation underneath it. I think it would rattle while driving, and that really drives me nuts.

It depends on the size of your notch. With a mild notch and bump stops your pumpkin won't hit the bed.

I figured I would add some sort of reinforcement underneath to prevent the patch from collapsing when there is something in the bed. I'm just knocking around ideas to try and get the truck as low as possible without major mods.

Great idea Bro... With the right tweaking it would be pretty bad a$$... I would use the thinest cutting tool possible so the gap was tight when closed..

Use magnets to keep the hinged panel secured when you're going down the road. You can find a strong magnet that will hold the panel, but release when the center section comes up through it.

It's a good Idea if you dont plan to lay real close to the ground. I've seen it done before, gives the bed a clean look when at ride hight. But think about how far down you want to go down. It's a good Idea to have some type of bumpstop in your C-notch.
